This year’s WWE SummerSlam will be spread across two nights. The Biggest Party of The Summer will emanate from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on August 2 and 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, the King and Queen of the Ring Tournaments got underway on last night's RAW. The new King and Queen will be crowned at Night of Champions, and they will get a chance to challenge their respective brand's world champion at SummerSlam.
After this week’s episode of RAW, here are four matches that may make it to the final card of SummerSlam:
#4. John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship
After taking a brief break from WWE following his loss to John Cena at WrestleMania 41, Cody Rhodes returned to weekly programming at Saturday Night's Main Event last month. The American Nightmare foiled The Franchise Player’s plan to make Jey Uso lose the World Heavyweight Championship to Logan Paul and ruin pro wrestling. He even declared a tag team match against Paul and Cena alongside Uso at Money in the Bank.
Come June 7, 2025, Cody pinned Cena in the main event of MITB to secure a victory in his first match since ‘Mania 41. While this should have granted him a title rematch at Night of Champions, CM Punk will be challenging The Never Seen 17 at the Saudi Arabia event on June 28.
Thus, there is a chance that The American Nightmare will go on to win the King of the Ring Tournament and face Cena at SummerSlam. The creative team dropped a hint for it on this week’s WWE RAW, where The Second City Saint hailed Rhodes as the best man the company currently has to offer.
#3. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
The main event of this week’s edition of RAW saw Jey Uso defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther. While The Ring General dropped the title to The YEET Master at WrestleMania 41, he made Uso pass out via a Sleeper Hold last night to win it back.
Earlier in the night, Sami Zayn fought a Fatal Four-Way Match against Bron Breakker, Penta, and Dominik Mysterio for a spot in the semifinals of the King of the Ring Tournament. Zayn got the job done by taking out Dominik with a Helluva Kick and pinning him for the win.
Notably, the OG Bloodline member ended Gunther's record-breaking 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign at WrestleMania XL. However, he was unsuccessful in dethroning The Ring General as World Heavyweight Champion last year.
Given that Night of Champions is set to take place in Riyadh, The Underdog from The Underground is a favorite to win the 2025 King of the Ring Tournament. Hence, it's likely that the former rivals will face each other yet again in a big showdown at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
#2. Seth Rollins could face his former Shield ''brother'' at SummerSlam 2025
Roman Reigns and CM Punk were betrayed by Paul Heyman at WrestleMania 41. The Wiseman then sided with Seth Rollins and handed The Visionary a steel chair, allowing him to pin the OTC in the Triple Threat Match. While Reigns tried to get back at The Architect and Heyman on RAW after ‘Mania, he was neutralized and demolished by Bron Breakker, who joined The Visionary’s alliance that night.
Since then, Seth Rollins and his faction have crushed everyone in their path, including Reigns’ OG Bloodline teammate, Sami Zayn. Moreover, The Revolutionary also won the Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match last Saturday. Thus, he is equipped with the weapon that made him win his first-ever WWE World Title at WrestleMania 31.
Now, the Only Tribal Chief could return and try to put a stop to Seth Rollins’ unchecked power on Monday Night RAW and get his revenge on his former Shield ''brother'' and Paul Heyman, setting up a huge singles match between the bitter rivals at the 2025 SummerSlam.
#1. Asuka vs. IYO SKY for the WWE Women’s World Championship
This week’s episode of WWE RAW showcased a video package that confirmed Asuka's return to weekly programming next Monday. The Empress of Tomorrow will face Ivy Nile, Stephanie Vaquer, and Raquel Rodriguez in a Fatal Four-Way Match in a bid to advance to the semifinals of the Queen of the Ring Tournament.
The 43-year-old has been missing from action since the 2024 Backlash PLE, where she lost the Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside Kairi Sane to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. Following this, she was sidelined due to a knee injury she suffered earlier that year and was pulled out of the 2024 Queen of the Ring Tournament. This year, she could win the tournament and earn a shot at the Women’s World Championship.
Interestingly, this would pit her against fellow Damage CTRL member IYO SKY. The Genius of The Sky is currently on a dominant run as Women's World Champion. She successfully defended her title against Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania 41.
Now, she may face Asuka at SummerSlam if The Empress of Tomorrow becomes the 2025 Queen of the Ring. It will be interesting to see if SKY further solidifies her reign by beating the 43-year-old or if Asuka wins another world title in WWE.
