5 Astonishing things you missed at WWE Extreme Rules 2019

The first and only 3-time Universal Champion

What a PPV Extreme Rules was. If you ignore Super ShowDown, then it means that WWE has had three solid PPVs in a row. Personally, we would prefer to ignore the Saudi Arabian disaster of a show and main event, instead of focusing on the fact that the product as a whole hasn't been too bad of late.

In fact, minus the occasional boring episode of RAW, the WWE product has generally been in a good place and there's only more optimism because Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff will be in control of RAW and SmackDown Live respectively from the night after.

If you exclude the fact that the PPV went too long, then there isn't much else that you can really ask for. There were quite a few things that WWE fans had missed during the PPV and we bring it to light. Without further ado, here are a few things you missed from WWE Extreme Rules 2019.

#5. Shane McMahon hiding behind Drew McIntyre

Shane McMahon didn't have a pleasant night
Shane McMahon didn't have a pleasant night

It wasn't a great night for Shane McMahon. His night ended with him staring at the roof as he was helplessly pinned. However, before the match even begun, there was a tense moment in the ring with all four competitors.

Shane, being the coward that he is, hid behind Drew McIntyre. It's now seen in the photo above but you'll notice it prior to the bell ringing. It was basically meant to establish the fact that McIntyre wasn't scared of The Undertaker and took it to him in a big way.

With McIntyre being the obvious power and muscle of the duo, it made sense for Shane to hide behind him. It was a nice subtle little moment that fans had missed.

#4. Paul Heyman cut a new promo for the first time in ages

True to his word
True to his word

There is no denying that Paul Heyman is one of the all-time great promos in wrestling. His ability on the mic is incredible and it's uncanny as to just how good he is. When he says that you can give him a mic and he can talk for all 3 hours of RAW, he isn't lying.

However, over the last few years, his association with Brock Lesnar meant that his promos have basically been the same the entire time - all while Lesnar hops around. At Extreme Rules, Heyman even cut a different style promo and it sounded fresh - exactly what he's capable of.

He even promised a Money in the Bank cash in from Brock Lesnar and this time, there were no shenanigans - Brock Lesnar cashed in to become a 3-time Universal Champion.

#3. Ricochet paying tribute to Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat

Ricochet put on a fantastic effort
Ricochet put on a fantastic effort

Ricochet is one of the fastest rising stars in WWE and the fact that AJ Styles turned heel against him only means that there are huge plans for him in the future. He's being pushed as though he's the next big thing and he very well could be, depending on how he handles it and how WWE manages to handle him.

He put on a great effort but was unsuccessful in retaining the United States Championship, losing to a very worthy opponent in AJ Styles (who cheated to win the title). However, many fans didn't notice that Ricochet was using very specific armdrags - exactly like that of Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, one of the all-time greats.

It was nice to see Ricochet pay tribute to a WWE and wrestling legend like that. There's no doubt that Steamboat has influenced his style.

#2. "We want Lesnar!" "No, we don't!"

What a finish
What a finish

The main event of WWE Extreme Rules 2019 saw Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch defend the Universal & RAW Women's Championship against Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans in a "Winner Takes All Last Chance Extreme Rules match". Yes, that is a very long stipulation name but as it turns out, the match was quite fun.

The most notable spot, of course, was when Becky Lynch took the End of Days from Baron Corbin, causing Rollins to become furious and finish Corbin. During the main event, however, there were some rather funny chants going on.

One half of the crowd was chanting "We want Lesnar!" and the other half was chanting "No, we don't". It was a subtle part of the match that cracked quite a few people up. It basically reflects the WWE Universe's polarising feelings about Brock Lesnar in general. One half did get their wish.

#1. The New Day are all champions now

Five years later...
Five years later...

Xavier Woods posted an incredible Tweet summing up what five years can do for a group of three.

This is one of the most crowning moments in The New Day's history and they have a lot of it. They're basically the longest-standing faction in WWE history at this point and are also six-time tag team champions.

Apart from just being record-breaking tag team champions, they achieved their ultimate goal at WrestleMania 35 when Kofi Kingston became WWE Champion. Now, a few months on, The New Day are riding sky high as Xavier Woods & Big E won the titles from Daniel Bryan & Rowan, while Kofi Kingston retained the WWE title against Samoa Joe.

It is an absolutely incredible moment for The New Day and it just goes to show how far they've come in the last few years as a whole.
