The core belief surrounding this feud has always been that "less is more". Several weeks ago, when Orton cut a promo and delivered an RKO to Beth Pheonix, people weren't in shock because of the RKO itself. The fans had soaked in the smaller, more effective aspects of The Viper's amazing promo before the RKO actually happened.
Their Last Man Standing Match followed the same guiding principle, where emotions took over the moves itself. The bout wasn't extreme from start-to-finish. It did drag in places where the performer's prime objective seemed to give the viewers a grand tour of WWE's Performance Center.
But with the "less is more" ideology in mind, the match reached a tipping point towards the latter portion of the bout, which is when some of the bigger spots occurred. This way, the spots felt earned on both Edge and Orton's behalf.
Towards the end, Edge knocked out The Viper with a submission, and that was it for Randy Orton. However, Edge stopped the referee's count and started weeping. He went on to smash Orton's head between two chairs for the bittersweet victory.
The final sequence of the match was wrestling psychology at its best.
