Extreme Rules: 5 major returns that can happen on the show tonight

Extreme Rules 2019!
Extreme Rules 2019!

We are less than 24 hours away from the one night of the year when WWE becomes extreme, as Extreme Rules 2019 will come to us live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The match card looks decent, but WWE hasn't built up the matches properly. While the in-ring action is likely to be solid, a big factor that could make it one of the better PPVs of the year are the returns of some major superstars.

In this article, let's take a look at five such returns that we could witness tonight on the PPV.

#5 Bray Wyatt

Let's start with arguably the most anticipated returns in pro-wrestling right now. Bray Wyatt's new gimmick and character change after WrestleMania has been one of the best decisions that WWE has made in a long time, with many even calling it the greatest gimmick WWE has produced in this decade.

The sociopath guest-show host Bray has introduced us to his world, inside a room which he calls the Firefly Fun House. He, along with Abby the Witch, Ramblin' Rabbit, Mercy the Buzzard, and Husky the Pig Boy have entertained us while telling a deep story of how Bray is nowhere near good as he portrays himself to be. The revelation of the masked character, Bray's split personality, The Fiend, has taken the fan's excitement to the next level.

With the Firefly Fun House episodes seemingly coming to an end a couple of weeks ago, there have been many instances of Bray's puppets spying on multiple wrestlers in backstage moments on both RAW and SmackDown. This all but confirms that The Fiend has been unleashed and it's only a matter of time before he targets his first victim.

The plan currently looks to let Bray have his first major feud and match at SummerSlam after returning, and for that, he needs to return to the screen ASAP. While WWE could easily book him to do that on RAW or SmackDown, a bigger impact would be if he decides to show up at Extreme Rules tonight.

What could he possibly do and who could he target is a question I'll leave to my dear readers' imagination. But from the looks of it, he seems to be hinting at a feud with Bobby Lashley. Comment below whether you think this would be a good first feud for a returning Wyatt or not.

#4 Randy Orton

The Viper is set for a return!
The Viper is set for a return!

Randy Orton has been away from the ring for almost a month now due to a neck injury. His last major match on WWE TV was against Triple H at Super ShowDown. But thankfully, he has healed now and is ready for a return to the screen.

The matter of fact is that Orton is too big a star to be left out from the SummerSlam card and in all likelihood, he'll return to the ring very soon, possibly at Extreme Rules. While many wanted him to be Aleister Black's opponent this Sunday, Cesaro took that place. But don't be sad, as we might just see this feud go down at SummerSlam if Orton returns and attacks Black at Extreme Rules.

Alternatively, a program with a returning Bray Wyatt also looks promising, as getting a rub from a superstar like Randy could prove to be huge for Wyatt. The two have a huge history together and Wyatt has also been sending cryptic messages to Orton through his twitter.

#3 Brock Lesnar

Will the Beast in the Bank cash-in at Extreme Rules?
Will the Beast in the Bank cash-in at Extreme Rules?

In what he claimed to be a spoiler rather than a prediction, Paul Heyman announced on RAW that his client, Brock Lesnar will cash-in his Money in the Bank contract at Extreme Rules. Now, we have seen the advocate fool us with such promos on many occasions previously, but the way he mentioned that he might be telling the truth or the lie, we are in a dilemma whether to believe him or not.

Lesnar appearing at Extreme Rules and cashing in his contract on any of the two world champions would be huge. There are multiple scenarios possible - from Heyman turning on him, to him losing his MITB contract, and many more.

As much as you might hate Brock Lesnar, you can't deny the fact that he is a blockbuster attraction for WWE, so consider the fact that there are chances of those words by Heyman actually being spoilers for tonight's show.

#2 Sting

Talking about major returns, The Undertaker surprisingly returned to RAW a couple of weeks ago to help Roman Reigns, and will be teaming up with him this Sunday. While his return has surely excited fans, another major rumor has been the speculations of the dream match between him and Sting happening soon.

WWE themselves teased the same on their social media, and while it was put out as a precursor for WWE's new show, WWE Reimagined, in which a hypothetical situation of Undertaker possibly joining WCW in 1998 to face Sting was portrayed, there are reasons for us to believe they might give this match to us for real.

Keeping aside the match quality, I still believe that these two have what it takes to tell a proper story through their feud and make a memorable rivalry. The seeds of the same can be sown at Extreme Rules if Sting returns to confront the Dead Man. Would you be excited to see these two legends clash inside a WWE ring?

#1 Sasha Banks

Bayley... watch your back!
Bayley... watch your back!

With all due respect, the Women's championship scene on both RAW and SmackDown hasn't been on the same level as it was during the WrestleMania season. Whether it's lack of intensity, or poor storylines and feuds, WWE needs something to get it back on top. And that something could very well be Sasha Banks.

The Legit Boss has been absent from the WWE programming ever since losing her Women's Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 35. While there was a lot of talks about her being done with WWE and wanting to leave, the latest rumors and advertising suggest that Sasha might be returning to TV soon, and I believe that could happen at Extreme Rules.

The story here is simple. Bayley is defending her SD Women's title against the duo of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a two-on-one handicap match. The odds are surely against her as she could be helpless against the double assault. This is when Sasha returns to help her former Tag partner retain her title, only to turn on her moments after her victory.

This would set up a Banks vs Bayley feud for SummerSlam, ending with Sasha winning her first SmackDown Women's Championship as a top heel.

Which of these returns are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments section below.
