'The Rated-R Superstar' Edge has done it and won the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble Match. Edge made history tonight by becoming only the third WWE Superstar in history to win the Royal Rumble Match from the first spot, also joining the elite list of Superstars who have won the Royal Rumble Match twice.

Entering at No. 1, Edge lasted throughout the match and made a total of three eliminations, with the last of them being his arch-rival Randy Orton to earn himself a world title shot at WrestleMania 37 against any champion of his choice. Truth be told, not many saw that coming and the decision has left fans wondering why did WWE choose him as the winner.

In this article, let's take a look at five reasons why Edge won the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble Match. Be sure to comment down and let us know your reactions to this massive victory tonight.

#5 One last world title reign for one of the greatest champions of all time - Edge

It was last year at the 2020 Men's Royal Rumble Match where Edge made his almost miraculous return to WWE after almost nine years. He had retired in 2011 due to his injury, while still at the top of the WWE mountain as the world champion.

Edge wasn't able to win the match last year, but still managed to reach the final three. Edge's Royal Rumble victory this year could lead to him getting one final world title reign at WrestleMania 37 - be it the WWE Championship or the Universal Championship.

Edge never really lost his title in the first place but unlike other part-timers, instead of calling out the champion and getting a title shot, Edge earned his way and will now be challenging for a world title at WrestleMania 37 later this year.

#4 Edge winning the Royal Rumble could be the big attraction that WWE needs for WrestleMania 37

Edge is one of the biggest attractions that WWE has on its current roster. Even nearly a decade after his retirement, Edge is highly 'over' among the WWE Universe, something that was evident when the entire arena went bonkers last year at Royal Rumble when he returned.

However, Edge's first year back hasn't been what he would have expected as WWE had to hold all their shows in empty arenas, without any live fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, fans are all set to return to WWE arenas later this year at the biggest WWE show of the year - WrestleMania 37.

WWE surely needs some big names on the card to attract as many fans as possible and Edge's Royal Rumble victory tonight could be a last-minute decision to ensure the same. The other favorites like Big E, Braun Strowman, or even Daniel Bryan could have been good choices to win the Royal Rumble as well. However, when it comes to popularity and mainstream attraction, Edge wins the race.

#3 Could lead to a dream match between Roman Reigns and Edge for the Universal Championship

Edge winning the 2021 Royal Rumble match could set up two massive WrestleMania main-events. Since the last few months, there were teases that the company is planning a massive match between Universal Champion Roman Reigns and WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg for WrestleMania 37 later this year.

The 'spear vs. spear' match between Goldberg and Roman Reigns was supposed to happen last year at WrestleMania 36. However, Reigns pulled out of the match at the last minute due to personal issues and was replaced by Braun Strowman, who defeated Goldberg.

Well, fans might just witness a 'spear vs. spear' match at this year's WrestleMania, only instead of Goldberg, it could be the WWE Hall of Famer Edge to take on Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship. Roman Reigns, The Tribal Chief, is arguably the biggest heel on the current WWE main roster, and who better to challenge him than one of the biggest babyfaces currently, Edge. Roman Reigns has managed to overcome all his opponents so far, but can he defeat the Rated-R Superstar, Edge?

#2 Edge vs. Drew McIntyre would be a great match at WrestleMania 37

The second possible WrestleMania 37 main event match following Edge's victory at Royal Rumble 2021 is him challenging the current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre. Ever since his return last year, Edge has only appeared on Monday Night RAW, making it likely that he might appear on the Red brand tomorrow and make his intentions clear to go after the WWE title that Drew McIntyre currently holds.

Drew McIntyre defended the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble tonight against Goldberg and defeated him. It is to be noted that McIntyre also delivered a spear of his own during the match, which could be a subtle hint towards the fact that WWE is planning Edge as his big WrestleMania feud this year.

The question with this however would be whether one of Edge and Drew McIntyre would turn heel on the Road to WrestleMania 37? As good as Edge has been recently as a babyface, his best work in WWE has been as a heel. It would be great to see a heel Edge back.

#1 Edge got his 'sweet revenge' on Randy Orton in the biggest way possible

Edge and Randy Orton entered the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble Match in the first and second spot respectively. Interestingly, these two were also the final two contenders in the match. In the closing moments, Edge eliminated Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman, only for Orton to sneak in and hit the RKO on The Rated-R Superstar.

It almost looked as if Orton will eliminate Edge to win the Royal Rumble for a third time. However, Edge turned the tables and threw The Viper out, winning the Royal Rumble for the second time in his career.

Edge and Randy Orton had a massive rivalry last year, which was still not over with Orton defeating The Rated-R Superstar at WWE Backlash 2020, following which Edge got injured and was out of action. Recently on Monday Night RAW, Randy Orton revealed his intentions to win the Royal Rumble once again.

By eliminating him last, Edge took the perfect 'sweet revenge' against Orton, probably ending their feud for now. At the same time, this could surely be used later to set up a third match between the two.
