5 Reasons why Rusev crashed Lana and Bobby Lashley's wedding

And just like that, Rusev ruined everything!
And just like that, Rusev ruined everything!

WWE really went all out on this one. From the way Lana was portrayed backstage before the wedding segment even began, to Liv Morgan revealing that she and Lana were lovers, WWE did everything in their power to make this the most shocking segment of 2019. The craziest part of all this is that it worked and accomplished much in the process.

WWE even had Rusev crash the wedding to top off the evening and while that was probably the most predictable outcome possible, it was still a welcome occurrence for the WWE Universe. It might just be what paves the way for the best Road to WrestleMania of Rusev's career.

With that stated and the wedding event of the year ruined right before our very eyes, here are five reasons why Rusev crashed Lana and Bobby Lashley's wedding. As always. let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us what you thought of the hellacious wedding segment.

#5 Cliff hanger

What does WWE have planned next for this ongoing saga?
What does WWE have planned next for this ongoing saga?

What happens next?

No seriously, after watching what unfolded in the closing moments of Monday Night RAW, what is WWE going to do next? Keep in mind that WWE Creative had the chance to end the controversial storyline then and there, have Lana become Lashley's longterm manager, and set Rusev up on a different path.

Instead, however, WWE decided to have Lana's first ex-husband, Bobby Lashley's first ex wife, Liv Morgan, and finally Rusev interrupt the festivities. The night even ended with a brawl between Lashley, Rusev, Lana and Liv Morgan, which left fans on a major cliffhanger.

Will Bobby Lashley come after Rusev for what 'The Bulgarian Brute' did on what was supposed to be the happiest night of his life? Will Lana and Lashley have another wedding? Will WWE follow up on the Liv Morgan/Lana secret lover storyline? If nothing else, WWE has a number of directions they can go from this one segment and it should be absolutely spectacular to watch play out.

#4 He still loves Lana

What if Rusev still loves Lana?
What if Rusev still loves Lana?

Does Rusev still love Lana? As absolutely insane as that might sound, especially after WWE showed how self-centered, egotistical, and outright annoying Lana's character is, 'The Bulgarian Brute' has still never said he didn't love her anymore. Of course that could just be a hole in WWE's storytelling that they plan to wrap up later, but what if it's not?

Beyond that, what if this whole Jerry Springer-like storyline is just WWE's temporary solution to make Rusev, Lana, and Bobby Lashley relevant again? Sure, the storyline is a bit of a ten car pileup at times and isn't for everyone, but it is making the WWE Universe take notice.

And what if that was the point all along? Furthermore, what if WWE choosing not to go through with Lana's wedding to Bobby Lashley is their way of eventually getting Lana and Rusev back together? At least that way, Lashley can garner heat from the crowd for being associated with Lana, Rusev can stay on television, and Lana can eventually turn face after some time has passed.

In the end, it might sound like a conspiracy theory, but Rusev crashing the ceremony seems to show that he still feels something for her. It might also be a hint that WWE plans to bring the two back together in some capacity at a future time.

#3 To buid momentum for Rusev

Crashing the wedding was a definite momentum boost for Rusev.
Crashing the wedding was a definite momentum boost for Rusev.

Momentum is the name of the game in WWE and Rusev was in dire need of the mojo after taking a decisive loss to Bobby Lashely at TLC. Of course 'The Bulgarian Brute' got some of his momentum back thanks to a squash match the next night on Monday Night RAW, but that wasn't going to be enough.

With only a short time before The Road to WrestleMania gets underway, it makes perfect sense for WWE to find a big way to shift momentum in Rusev's favor. Interestingly enough, they may have chosen to do it by having Rusev crash Lana and Bobby's wedding to close the last RAW of the decade.

While the conclusion to Monday Night RAW's wedding was spectacular, especially with all the storyline possibilities it opened up, the effect started well before that. In fact, between Lana's multiple backstage segments throughout the night and the absence of Rusev, WWE was definitely hinting at this the entire time.

And all that buildup throughout the night made it feel absolutely cathartic to see Rusev storm the ring and take out Bobby Lashley. It was arguably the biggest "screw you" moment of the year, gave Lashley a reason to continue his feud with Rusev, and gave them both a huge momentum boost heading into WrestleMania.

That's a lot to accomplish in one night.

#2 Payoff

The WWE Universe had been waiting all night for this.
The WWE Universe had been waiting all night for this.

Rusev day! Rusev day! That was the chant that echoed throughout the arena during the main event segment of Monday Night RAW and it would have been a huge disappointment if Rusev didn't make his presence felt. Interestingly enough, WWE seemed to know that and used that expectation to create several swerves along the way.

It started out innocently enough with a man the WWE Universe had never seen before coming to the ring to announce that he was Lana's first husband. He quickly told Lashley that she would throw him away as soon as she found someone better, and that he should run while he had a chance.

Lashely responded by planting the man and walking back to the alter to finish the ceremony. The couple was actually just about to be pronounced man and wife when out of nowhere, another mysterious woman appeared. This time it was Lashely's ex-wife and she came to warn Lana that she shouldn't go through with it.

Of course this was met with Lana slapping her in the face for ruining her wedding day before trying to continue on with the ceremony. Unfortunately for Lana, Liv Morgan stepped forward and claimed that she and Lana were lovers, which arguably got one of the biggest pops of the entire night. That ended with Lana having a brawl with Morgan until the two were separated and Lana was brought back to the alter.

And then it happened. Just when Lana and Lashely thought they vanquished all their doubters, Rusev came out of the wedding cake, attacked Lashley, and crashed their special day. All while the WWE Universe chanted "Rusev day" and soaked in the moment that the company had carefully planned out.

It was the perfect payoff to end the evening and send fans home happy. It was also a great way to keep the storyline going into the new year, which should be big for WWE's struggling midcard.

#1 Continue the feud

WWE seems to want to keep this going for some reason.
WWE seems to want to keep this going for some reason.

While not everyone is into the ongoing storyline between Bobby Lashley, Rusev, and Lana, it is something that is generating a huge reaction from the WWE Universe. In fact, it has become such a discussed topic over the past month or so that WWE had no choice but to continue.

Why would WWE ever want to end something like this prematurely? Sure, it might not be the huge ratings grabber that a title match would be or even a heated rivalry, but it is serving a pretty important purpose in the midcard right now. Beyond that, it is helping keep Rusev, Lana, and Bobby Lashley relevant right before WrestleMania season.

If nothing else, WWE can't afford to lose a storyline like this and absolutely made the right choice by continuing it. Maybe this could even lead to Lana and Lashley getting a re-do wedding, which would be a huge heat magnet to watch play out again and lead to yet another cliffhanger.

In all honesty, the ongoing love triangle between Lana, Rusev and Bobby Lashley is nothing short of amazing and seems to be a nod to Attitude Era type content. That's why WWE can't afford to let it end now and will have to let it play out throughout the new year.
