5 stories that make John Cena seem like a real life heel

Could it be?

John Cena, also known as the Doctor of Thuganomics during his days of wrestling experimentation, is one of WWE’s biggest babyfaces ever. In addition to that, his success has gone above and beyond any Superstar we’ve ever seen past or present – and yes, that includes the Hulk Hogans and Ric Flairs of the world.

Cena does a hell of a lot of charity work outside of the squared circle, which is one of the many reasons why he’s got the image of being a squeaky clean, good guy. Despite this, there have been a couple news stories and rumours over the years that paint Big Match John in an entirely new light, which is probably why WWE have tried so hard to hide that side of him from us.

Several of these tales are quite well known in the internet wrestling community, but we can never be 100% sure about their validity. After all, wrestlers are known to exaggerate the truth from time to time, and things can often be lost in translation. Whatever the case may be, dedicated members of the Cenation may wish to look away now.

With that being said, here are five stories that make John Cena seem like a real life heel.

#1 Total Bellas

Total disaster

In the first few episodes of Total Divas, it seemed as if we were starting to see the real side of John Cena shining through. It wasn’t until Total Bellas first aired, however, that we realised the company were either purposely trying to portray him as a heel, or the guy really was a piece of work.

Within the first episode, Cena had laid down a series of ground rules that were to be strictly adhered to at all times. This included everyone dressing to the nines for dinner once a week, ensuring that they keep their room tidy, in addition to several other regulations. Seriously, just let people relax once in a while.

Say it to my face.

#2 Alex Riley

Riley could’ve been a world champion

A-Ry actually had some momentum back in 2011, with the former manager coming out of his feud with The Miz looking like someone with the potential to be a player in the WWE. Unfortunately, he suffered quite a dramatic fall from grace in the months following, and nobody could quite put their finger on why things went oh so wrong.

That was, until, the rumours of a rift with John Cena began. Apparently, there was some kind of altercation between the two men that led to Cena burying Riley backstage, with the man himself recently revealing that there was indeed something notable that occurred. Riley claimed that he'd tell the story “one day” – and we frankly cannot wait.

You’re either Nexus, or you’re against us.

#3 Nexus burial

Seven guys – but no match for Cena

The Nexus were the definition of a hot stable when they debuted on the main roster in 2010, tearing through everyone as they set their sights on ruling the company. One man who they were particularly keen to focus on was, you guessed it, the 16-time world champion John Cena.

For a while, they got the upper hand on Cena, but the face that runs the place was able to turn this around by picking up a big win for Team WWE against The Nexus at SummerSlam 2010. Initially, it seemed as if the former NXT competitors would go over, but Cena insisted that he be the one to come out on top in the 7v7 duel. Big, big mistake.

Feed him more.

#4 Ryback

Forever rivals

It’s quite difficult to take anything Ryback says seriously nowadays, especially when every other thing that comes out of his mouth is an insult to WWE. The Big Guy has torn into Cena on several different occasions in the past, sighting his attitude backstage in addition to his drunken behaviour while hanging around with the boys.

One of the incidents in question included Cena supposedly telling Ryback to enjoy being the #1 merchandise seller while it lasted because soon enough he’d be back down to #2. Sure that was probably the case, but if that story is true, then John does need to think about his priorities.

This is awkward...

#5 Dykstra/James dilemma

Dykstra dug his own grave

Back in the day, former Spirit Squad member Kenny Dykstra and Mickie James were said to be head over heels for each other, and the two had dated for quite some time. Things were going swimmingly until, you guessed it, Mr Fruity Pebbles himself came along and stole James away from the male cheerleader.

Cena was said to be a big reason behind Dykstra being released from the company, and when Mickie eventually wanted to take her relationship with John to the next level, he was quick to issue the same treatment to the former champion. Of course, this is all speculation, but it’s been circulating for long enough now, and Mickie herself has even alluded to it.
