5 things WWE could have done to make WrestleMania 35 the perfect event

Before I start this piece, let me make it absolutely clear that WrestleMania 35 was actually a very good event. Despite only two to three matches having a proper storyline, the event turned out to be very good with some top-class performances from WWE Superstars.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, let’s get to the brass tacks. WrestleMania 35 was the longest PPV ever in the history of WWE. There were 16 matches played out in total and 7 titles changed hands.

The fan favorites saw themselves on the winning side as WWE surprised everyone with how they responded to the fans’ requests. For years, if there was one complaint against the company, it was how they never listened to them.

This time, however, the fans have no way to complain. However, nothing is really perfect and this even also had some flaws – some things that WWE could have done differently.

And here are 5 such things…

#5 A clean win for Rollins

I understand. Brock Lesnar is the Beast Incarnate, the epitome of greatness intertwined with brutality. However, the idea that he could absolutely squash anyone at will and the only way to beat him is to embrace the dark arts is something that should not be happening all the time.

Yes, he has an enormous physique and Paul Heyman is always there to hype him up. But beneath all that muscle is a man – a mere mortal – who could also be defeated cleanly.

Goldberg did it once and that was about it. The fact that Goldberg did it – who is not really a great in-ring performer – but others far better inside the squared circle couldn’t is something that needed changing.

And WWE could have done with Rollins instead of making him go low.

#4 Squash win for Demon Balor

This might be a bit of a controversial point but Finn Balor’s Demon persona is something far beyond Bobby Lashley. For starters, why Balor thought it was necessary to bring out his superb alter-ego for someone like Lashley and not Lesnar (at Royal Rumble) is a question that needs a clear answer.

Nevertheless, he decided to unleash the Demon at WrestleMania, so he had to win – and win it did.

However, there is an intrigue surrounding the Demon avatar. After all, it was the first character to win the WWE Universal Title (coincidentally against current holder Seth Rollins) after its inception.

So, it is safe to claim that the Demon is a special character. Even the commentator hyped it when Balor powerbombed Lashley. However, the Almighty – no matter how big and mighty he is – is no match for the Demon.

And it should have been shown exactly in that light via a squash win for Balor.

#3 Aleister Black and Ricochet should have won the Raw Tag Titles

A lot is expected from Aleister Black and Ricochet in the WWE. Both are expected to be huge stars somewhere down the line and the fact that they enjoyed wins after wins as a Tag Team is a testament to how highly the WWE rate them.

However, they might have missed a trick with them by pitting them against The Usos, The Bar and the team of Rusev and Shinsuke Nakamura for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles in a fatal four-way match.

Meanwhile, The Revival lost their Raw Tag Team Titles to the team of Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins at WrestleMania in a match that was set up at the very last minute without any storyline behind it.

Instead of Ryder and Hawkins, Black and Ricochet could have won the titles. They also have recent history with The Revival and so it would have made more sense than shoving Ryder and Hawkins at the last minute.

#2 Dirty win for Reigns/McIntyre

Roman Reigns had a clean win against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 35

Even though the result of the match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania was expected – with Roman Reigns winning cleanly – the fact of the matter is that Reigns didn’t need the win as much as McIntyre needed it.

By making McIntyre lose cleanly, not only WWE displayed Roman’s superiority, but they also might have shoved McIntyre down the pecking order as a commendable heel.

Ever since his return to the main roster, the Scottish Psychopath has been an unstoppable force and not making him win or lose via illegal means just undermines all the good character work he has done over the past few months.

In terms of logic, also, this booking was questionable. Roman just returned after recovery from leukemia and fought against one of the best heels in the company. Yes, he might be a face and perhaps a win for him made sense in that aspect but at the very least, it should have been a dirty win.

#1 Becky Lynch win should have been more convincing

Becky Lynch reigned supreme over the rest at WrestleMania

The ending of WrestleMania left somewhat of a bad taste in the mouth. While the match in itself was a great one, the ending turned out to be very poor as Lynch won via a roll-up on Ronda Rousey.

When you think about this with the brain, it makes sense, doesn’t it? Even though it might have looked like a botch, a roll-up win doesn’t undermine any of the three performers.

However, let’s think with the heart, shall we? Becky Lynch is the face of the women’s revolution at WWE. She is far superior as an entertainer when compared to the rest of the women athletes.

As a result, her win should have indicated that dominance, which did not happen due to the roll-up win. She should have either pinned Ronda Rousey/Charlotte Flair after her finisher or made them tap out to the dis-arm-her.
