5 Times WWE Superstars got physical with Vince McMahon in real life

Vince McMahon spent a long time behind the desk in WWE, as an announcer. He also made it a point to not get involved in WWE storylines in any capacity. It all changed in the mid-90s when Bret Hart shoved Vince McMahon on an episode of RAW, a moment that is dubbed as the birth of the Mr. McMahon character.

Vince McMahon went on to become one of the greatest heels of all time and was a regular on WWE TV for years on end. His feud against Stone Cold Steve Austin is regarded by many as a major reason why WWE managed to topple WCW in the Monday Night Wars. Vince McMahon took some serious punishment over the years on WWE TV, while feuding with the company's biggest Superstars. In this list though, we are going to take a look at five real-life instances, where a WWE Superstar got physical with Vince McMahon.

#5 Bret Hart clotheslines a drunk Vince McMahon in a bar

The Hart Foundation
The Hart Foundation

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart appeared on a show hosted by Inside The Ropes earlier this year and shared a bunch of interesting stories. Hart recalled an incident that took place in a strip bar. According to Hart, Vince McMahon was drunk to the limit and wasn't in his senses. The Road Warriors decided to execute their finisher on McMahon but ended up performing a watered-down version on the boss.

Jim Neidhart and Bret Hart had other plans though. After being encouraged by the likes of Hulk Hogan, the duo did the unthinkable, with Neidhart picking McMahon up and Hart hitting him full blast with a clothesline.

And as I set the two shot glasses down, Jim picks Vince up. Hulk Hogan was like, 'are you gonna do it, or am I gonna have to find someone else to?' I just looked at Hulk Hogan and looked at Hawk, and I just took off and clotheslined Vince full blast.

This wouldn't be the last time Vince McMahon was attacked by Bret Hart

Vince McMahon is one of the most ruthless entities in the wrestling world, and this demeanor of his has helped him reach the top of the industry. It's hard to imagine a drunk Vince McMahon partying with a bunch of his wrestlers in a bar, and getting clotheslined by Bret Hart. It did happen though, and it certainly wasn't the last time Bret Hart would get physical with Vince McMahon in real life.

#4 Vince McMahon and Kofi Kingston fight on a plane

Kofi Kingston

Last year, Vince McMahon and Kofi Kingston feuded on the road to WrestleMania, with the boss doing everything he could to make sure that The New Day member wouldn't go to The Show of Shows and compete for the WWE title. He eventually did it and became the WWE Champion. Interestingly, Vince McMahon and Kingston once actually had a quick tussle on a plane. When the plane landed, McMahon passed a snide remark about Kingston getting over, to which the latter didn't respond.

Chris Jericho was responsible for what happened between Kofi Kingston and Vince McMahon next

A drunk Chris Jericho decided to make things interesting and coaxed Kofi Kingston into going back and confronting Vince McMahon in response to his comment. Kingston went back, had a quick chat with McMahon, which led to a scuffle between the two on the floor of the plane. Vince McMahon suddenly got back up and began laughing, and this was it as far as their 'fight' was concerned. Jericho wrote in his book that Kofi Kingston earned his respect that day. It would take around nine more years for him to win the big one in WWE.

#3 Nailz attacks Vince McMahon in his office

Nailz
Nailz

WWE Superstar Nailz was let go by Vince McMahon in December 1992, following an alleged attack on the latter in his office. The attack stemmed from a financial dispute, and this was it for Nailz in regards to a career in WWE. Back in 2018, WWE announcer Mene Gene Okerlund talked in detail as to what happened that night.

I heard a lot of screaming and shouting. I think it opened up with: “Are you kidding me? (You’ve) given Big Boss Man $25,000 and given me $8,000? Take this check back!” And then it got into a squabble. Nailz was wrong on that. That was the end of the road for him.
I never heard too much. I know Jim Duggan was one of the guys that went in to break it up. Vince is a tough guy though too. However, Nailz is a real, real tough guy. He’s a pro.

Vince McMahon never brought Nailz back again

In his autobiography, Bret Hart described the attack as Nailz 'knocking Vince McMahon over in his chair, choking him violently'. Vince McMahon certainly wasn't happy one bit over what had happened and made sure that Nailz would never come back to WWE again. Nailz spent years on end working on the indies following his WWE exit.

#2 Randy Savage apparently slapped Vince McMahon in a bar

Randy Savage
Randy Savage

Randy Savage and WWE parted ways in 1994, following which the former went to WCW. He would never wrestle for Vince McMahon's promotion again and tragically passed away due to a heart attack in 2011. The real-life heat between Vince McMahon and Randy Savage became the stuff of legends, and no one had any idea as to what happened that caused a rift between the two, to the point that Savage never came back to WWE again.

Vince McMahon and Randy Savage didn't make amends, and fans never got to see him again in WWE

Savage was still making promotional appearances for Vince McMahon's company and was also featured in the WWE All Stars videogame. Mere days after Savage's passing, WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper posted a tweet that was intended to put all speculation to rest. Here's what Piper stated:

"Randy slapped Vince in a bar...End of that story!!"

Four years after Savage's passing, Vince McMahon finally gave the green light for his Hall of Fame induction. Savage got his deserved place in the WWE Hall of Fame, but we'll never know what happened between the two that led to Savage slapping Vince McMahon in a public place.

#1 Bret Hart punches Vince McMahon following the Montreal Screwjob

Bret Hart
Bret Hart

The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most important moments in the history of pro wrestling and is still talked about to this day. Many dub it as the moment that gave birth to the Attitude Era, and it effectively ended the relationship between Vince McMahon and Bret Hart. The former WWE Champion has spoken about the incident on various occasions, but he recently opened up on it again and put the claims to rest that stated that Vince McMahon let Bret Hart hit him.

The Undertaker had a take on it. His take on it a few months ago - and they always say stuff like, 'Vince probably said before he walked in that he was going to let me take a shot at him.' I don't remember that ever happening and I don't remember Vince saying anything like that to me in my dressing room that he's going to let me take one shot at him. There was no one shot [offer]. I took my own shot. I doubt that's the case. [McMahon] never saw it coming.

Vince McMahon and Bret Hart would make amends years later, for the latter's Hall of Fame induction

Bret Hart left for WCW following the Montreal Screwjob, while Vince McMahon berated him on WWE TV during an interview with Jim Ross. Vince McMahon and Bret Hart made amends years later, and Hart was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. Bret Hart fought Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 26 and defeated him in what was dubbed by many as Hart's revenge for what had happened on that fateful night in 1997.
