This year's Clash of Champions takes place next week and sees quite an interesting concept since the current RAW Tag Team Champions will not only be defending their Championships as a duo against the recently formed team of Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, but later in the night, they will be facing off with Seth Rollins' Universal Championship on the line.

Rollins and Braun Strowman are far from friends, but they are the current Tag Team Champions and not the first Champions to decide to face off to see who is better. Interestingly, over the years there have been a number of Tag Team Champions who have shaken hands and left it all in the ring in a quest to see which one is the top dog. Some of the most unlikely teams have faced off whilst being champions in WWE and here are just a few of the most recent ones.

#5. The Miz and John Morrison

The Miz and John Morrison seemed to compliement each other as a tag team, which is why it came as no surprise when they were able to lift the WWE Tag Team Championships back in 2008. The two stars won the titles from Kofi Kingston and CM Punk at a house show in Toronto on one of the biggest shocks of the year.

Miz and Morrison were stars both together and individually at this point, which is why it's not much of a surprise that they faced off against each other as part of a Money in the Bank qualifying match later that year.

John Morrison was able to pick up the win following Moonlight Drive, which allowed him to go on to qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match a few weeks later.

#4. Paul London and Brian Kendrick

Paul London and Brian Kendrick were a popular tag team on the SmackDown brand throughout 2005 and 2006 since their main feud at that time was with MNM. Since Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro had Melina in their corner, London and Kendrick recruited Ashley and this then developed into a six-person feud over time and they were considered to be babyfaces throughout.

Interestingly, London and Kendrick were drawn to face each other in the random draw for the Beat The Clock Sprint that would award the winner with a WWE Championship match. Both men were shocked to see their friend on the otherside of the ring, but neither man was able to beat the time and the match was then called a draw after they battled for almost eight minutes.

Ashley then made her way to the ring to help both stars to their feet so that the WWE Universe could show their appreciation for a fantastic match between two men who were only used to working as a team, which means fans didn't find out who the better man really was.

#3. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels

Two of WWE's biggest singles stars of the 1990s were also able to lift the WWF Tag Team Championships back in 1997. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels were able to defeat Owen Hart and The British Bulldog to win the titles for the first time, in the spring of 1997, but despite Michaels and Austin being Champions at the time there was animosity between the two men throughout their reign, so it was decided that they would face off at the 1997 King of the Ring pay-per-view in order to reveal who the captain of their team was.

The match between the two men was one of the matches of the night, but shockingly it ended in a double disqualification so the WWE Universe were none the wiser when it comes to who the real captain was.

Michaels and Austin were forced to relinquish the Championships a just a few months later when Michaels was suspended from the company following a real-life backstage altercation with Bret Hart which was well documented at the time.

#2. Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero were close friends both inside and outside of WWE, which could be why they were able to have such a fantastic feud throughout 2005 regarding the real paternity of Mysterio's son Dominick.

Ahead of this headline feud, which reached its climax in a ladder match at SummerSlam the same year, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio won the Tag Team Championships at No Way Out when they were able to defeat The Basham Brothers.

Despite being Tag Team Champions, Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio still faced off at WrestleMania 21 where Mysterio was able to pick up the win with a fluke roll-up.

Interestingly the two men were still able to shake hands after the match even though the problems between them were just beginning. Their match for the custody of Dominick took place just four months later at The Biggest Party of the Summer and much like their WrestleMania match it was Mysterio who was able to come out on top and maintain the custody of his son, who is currently working for WWE alongside his legendary father.

#1. John Cena and Shawn Michaels

John Cena and Shawn Michaels were two of the biggest stars in WWE back in 2007, but their storyline together became interesting following The Royal Rumble when he was able to defeat Rated-RKO alongside WWE Champion John Cena to win the Tag Team Championships.

Interestingly, Michaels was then able to defeat Edge and Randy Orton in a triple threat match a few weeks later to become the number one contender to Cena's WWE Championship, a match that later took place at WrestleMania 23 despite the fact that the duo were still Tag Team Champions at the time.

Ahead of the show, there was a fantastic storyline that included SmackDown's WrestleMania main event of Batista and The Undertaker up against Shawn Michaels and John Cena, which built the tension heading into WWE's biggest event of the year.

When Michaels was unable to defeat The leader of The CeNation to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania he went on to cost the duo their titles when he threw Cena out of a battle royal for the Tag Team Championships and in turn helped The Hardy's to become Champions the following night on Raw.
