Matt Hardy sent fans into a frenzy on Monday when he reposted a video of WWE's tease of Uncle Howdy's return. Hardy is a free agent after his contract with AEW expired on April 8. He posted a clip from the latest episode of RAW, which displayed a QR code on the screen while Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods made their entrance.

The former WWE United States Champion is said to have reposted The Uncle Howdy teaser to build hype around himself, per WrestlingWorldCC. It's certainly worked with fans pondering whether he's returning as a member of the rumored Wyatt 6 faction.

Matt Hardy last appeared in the Stamford-based company in February 2020. He spent several years trying to get his 'Woken' gimmick over with fans but failed to do so. He announced his departure the following month and joined AEW on the March 18, 2020, episode of Dynamite.

Tony Khan's company handed the veteran more creative freedom. He ran through several personas and reunited with his brother Jeff Hardy when the Charismatic Enigma joined AEW in 2022.

Matt Hardy could be enticing fans with his reposts to follow him wherever he ends up, whether that be WWE or the Independent Circuit. He may feel there is more opportunity to explore his creativity in the TKO-owned company with Triple H running things.

Matt Hardy explained why his 'Woken' character didn't work in WWE

Matt Hardy partnered with Bray Wyatt during his previous run with WWE. He did so with his 'Woken' gimmick, and the pair were known as The Deleters Of Worlds.

The duo won the RAW Tag Team Championships in 2018 at the Greatest Royal Rumble. That three-month reign lasted until Extreme Rules, when they lost the tag titles. Hardy and Wyatt disbanded shortly after, and the 14-time World Tag Team Champion made sporadic appearances from then on.

The North Carolinian star opened up on what went wrong for 'Woken' Matt Hardy during that character's run in WWE. He said:

"I think just with the shortage of talent on the roster, I feel like (former WWE Chairman) Vince (McMahon) felt like he needed to get myself and Bray on TV every week. And we were having like these really weird three-minute matches, where we were facing other tag teams and we beat every tag team and a three, three and a half minute match. And I felt like that kind of took away from those characters having Woken Matt and Bray just having regular wrestling matches. I feel like those are two characters that are much more vignette driven." [H/T TJR Wrestling]

Matt Hardy could reintroduce the 'Woken' character should he return as part of these intriguing QR code teases. He may be part of a faction fronted by Uncle Howdy (Bo Dallas) as one phrase that appeared during a tease was 'You Forgot About Us.'
