WWE News: Bray Wyatt lists his dream opponents from the WWE Hall of Fame

Bray Wyatt lists his dream opponents

What’s the story?

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard section to promote WrestleMania 33, Bray Wyatt spoke about several topics including his reign as the WWE Champion, his WrestleMania 33 plans, his WrestleMania opponent Randy Orton and The Wyatt Family itself.

Interestingly enough, Wyatt also listed out his dream opponents for a match, all from the WWE Hall of Fame.

In case you didn’t know...

Bray Wyatt comes from a family of professional wrestlers. His father Mike Rotunda was better known in the WWE (then-WWF) as IRS, and his maternal grandfather was the WWE Hall of Famer Blackjack Mulligan. Wyatt’s brother, Bo Dallas, is also a part of the WWE roster.

Wyatt has had a lot of exposure to the world of professional wrestling growing up and has been up close and personal with the business from a very young age.

After having made his professional wrestling debut in 2009, Wyatt has found his way to the absolute top of the WWE ladder and is currently the WWE Champion. Wyatt will be defending the title against his former ally Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33 on April 2nd 2017.

The heart of the matter

During the interview, Wyatt was asked to name his dream opponents for a match inside the squared circle. Wyatt ended up naming Shawn Michaels, Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Mick Foley.

Wyatt stated that he would have been a “nightmare” for either of these opponents, had he faced off against them. Wyatt also recognised The Undertaker as having been one of his dream opponents in the past.

Here’s the complete quote from the Eater of Worlds himself:

“Mick Foley would be one and Jake Roberts is another,” said Wyatt. “It’s the storytelling element behind their faces, but that one person who I’ve never really spoken about—and someone I could have done something beautiful with—is Shawn Michaels.

Shawn Michaels is the ultimate storyteller, the ultimate in-ring performer. I would have loved to have done something with Shawn Michaels.

I had the opportunity to do something with The Undertaker on several occasions, and Shawn Michaels is the one who got away. I like fighting smaller guys, they’re easier to move around, and Shawn Michaels and I could have created art together.”

Interestingly enough, all three of Wyatt’s dream opponents have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame with HBK holding the distinction of being the first Grand Slam Champion in WWE history.

What’s next?

Bray Wyatt, as mentioned earlier, will be taking on Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33, with his WWE Championship being on the line. Wyatt will be looking to keep a firm hold on the title and would also be wanting to re-unite the Wyatt family in the future.

Wyatt’s dream opponents are either retired or semi-retired from in-ring action and it is unlikely that we’ll be seeing him in a match against any of them. Although Jake Roberts has been wanting a WWE return for quite some time now.

Author’s take

It’s interesting to read this insight into Bray Wyatt’s dream opponents, who are, of course, also his professional wrestling inspirations. It is clear that Wyatt is a true student of the professional wrestling business and has keenly observed and subsequently learned from some of the very best.

At just 29 years of age, the third-generation Superstar Wyatt has already achieved more than most others will have in their entire careers, and as the reigning World Champion, it appears that the Era of Wyatt has truly, only just begun.
