WrestleMania 37: 5 things WWE could be planning for the two-night event

WrestleMania 37 will be a two-night event.

Over the weekend, WWE announced the dates and venues for the next three WrestleManias. And much like last year, this year's edition of the Show of Shows will take place over two nights.

However, the difference between WrestleMania 36 and WrestleMania 37 will be that WWE is planning for a two-night event months in advance. This gives them enough time to come up with the perfect card for the occasion.

Last year's event had to be spread over two nights because WWE to host it at the Performance Center. This time, Raymond James Stadium will play host to WrestleMania, and there will be limited fans in attendance.

With around three months to book a two-night extravaganza, WWE will look to make WrestleMania 37 the biggest one in history. Last year's card felt hastily booked in places when spread across two nights. That likely won't happen this time around.

Here are five things WWE could be planning for WrestleMania 37, now that it is two nights.

#5 More part-timers at WrestleMania 37

WrestleMania 36 saw up to five part-timers in action, and we could expect something similar this year as well. Edge could be making his return from injury soon, while Brock Lesnar is likely to return for 'Mania. Meanwhile, Goldberg is back and could have his second match of the year in April.

John Cena never misses WrestleMania, so he could play a part at the show. Whether he wrestles or is simply there for a promo segment is anybody's guess. Even The Undertaker could show up, despite being retired from the ring. Beyond them, WWE could turn to a couple more names.

Triple H did not wrestle at last year's WrestleMania, but he could be back in the ring. He had a Street Fight with Randy Orton on last week's RAW, and AJ Styles mentioned him as somebody he would like to face at Raymond James Stadium. The Game will probably have a match as well.

This would leave both nights with an equal amount of star power, without even considering possible returns for Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch. The two female megastars aren't full-timers anymore for different reasons and while they probably won't wrestle, an appearance from either of them isn't out of the question.

#4 Potential for more mid-card stories to be told at WrestleMania 37

While two nights of WrestleMania would feature more part-timers than ever, it also lends an opportunity to the mid-card talent on RAW and SmackDown. Last year, when WrestleMania was moved, WWE scrambled to book a couple of heatless undercard matches for both nights.

King Corbin vs. Elias and Aleister Black vs. Bobby Lashley was not at all WrestleMania-worthy, and WWE would have been better off having seven matches on either night. But with the riches of talent on the roster, several compelling stories could be told on the undercard of WrestleMania.

The United States Championship and Intercontinental Championship could receive more attention when spread across WrestleMania weekend, while several non-title feuds could organically blossom. Superstars like Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, and Sami Zayn could have decent spots on the card as a result.

A lot of these Superstars would usually be lost in the shuffle at WrestleMania, possibly in the Battle Royal. However, the two-night format allows them to shine in the spotlight. Nakamura and Cesaro could break up in the coming months and be a great choice to open Night One of 'Mania.

#3 A running two-night Championship story at WrestleMania 37

With more stories being told across the board for WrestleMania, there could be an increased focus on one area in WWE. The two-night format allows longer form stories to be told. Night One could feature a number one contender's match, with the winner getting a title shot on Night Two.

This would be perfect for the RAW Women's Championship. Charlotte Flair could defeat Asuka for the belt in the next month or so, after betraying her current tag team partner. Meanwhile, Rhea Ripley could debut on the WWE main roster and challenge Charlotte to a title match at WrestleMania after what happened last year.

With both Asuka and Ripley wanting revenge over The Queen at 'Mania, they could face each other on Night One, and the winner would challenge for the RAW Women's Title the following night. A story thread like this would instantly raise the stakes of both shows in a creative way, linking the two of them together.

An alternative idea would be the unification of the RAW and SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Both tag titles could be up for grabs matches on Saturday, with the winners facing off on Sunday to crown the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. This would make the two-night format memorable and worthwhile.

#2 Both Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre main eventing WrestleMania 37

WWE couldn't have a better pair of world champions heading into WrestleMania 37. Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre are two incredible performers, as they proved throughout 2020. The two-night format of WrestleMania allows both Superstars to main event the Show of Shows.

Reigns is doing the best work of his career and should be the headline act at 'Mania, while McIntyre is also on a major roll. The Scottish Psychopath would likely have had to settle for the second biggest match on the night, but now, he is likely to headline one of the two nights of WrestleMania.

Drew McIntyre was robbed of his crowning moment in front of fans at WrestleMania 36, and while he did end the show on top, it was in an empty gym. This time, with limited fans in attendance, McIntyre could stand tall at the end of WrestleMania Night One to the pop he was supposed to get a year ago.

If both McIntyre and Reigns headline both nights, respectively, it will have been accolades well deserved. The Tribal Chief has been excellent since his return at SummerSlam, and his match at WrestleMania could be the biggest of the entire weekend. Hopefully, it is against a current SmackDown Superstar.

#1 The NXT Championship being defended at WrestleMania 37

Since WrestleMania will be on Saturday and Sunday, NXT Takeover might not happen. With its weekly show, SmackDown, RAW, and possibly the WWE Hall of Fame, there may not be a free night for Takeover during 'Mania week. That being said, there could be a spot for the NXT Championship at WrestleMania.

The NXT Women's Championship was defended at WrestleMania 36, and with the way things are going, at least one NXT match could grace the Grandest Stage of Them All. After all the part-timers, mid-card showcases, and running two-night stories, there might still be a spot at WrestleMania for NXT.

One thing that helps this possibility is the fact that Finn Balor is the NXT Champion. He is the biggest star on the brand and has been a prominent part of the main roster as well. Balor's big NXT Title defense will be against Karrion Kross, who recently returned from an injury that forced him to vacate the belt.

A match between Balor and Kross is worthy of the stadium setting of WrestleMania, if only for the entrances alone. It would be quite the moment for NXT, as well as Kross. It is made possible thanks to the fact that WWE might end up booking up to 20 matches in total for WrestleMania.

Anyway, there is a lot that could happen during both nights at Raymond James Stadium. These ideas could help WrestleMania 37 stand out as a unique event, a grander and more stacked version of WrestleMania 36. These are exciting times!
