WWE Stomping Grounds : 3 reasons why Ricochet should win the US Championship

The One and Only
The One and Only

NXT graduate Ricochet overcame all the odds and won the fatal-5 way elimination match also featuring Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, The Miz, and Cesaro on this week's RAW to earn the right to challenge Samoa Joe at WWE Stomping Grounds. This is the first time that King Ricochet will feature in a singles pay-per-view match ever since moving up to the main roster.

Also, this is the first time Ricochet will fight for a singles title on a main roster pay-per-view. While many fans are backing Samoa Joe to retain the title and continue his devastating reign on Monday Night RAW, I feel Ricochet should win the United States Championship at WWE Stomping Grounds.

I know it would be a bit early to hand the former North American Champion a title as prestigious as the US title, but here are the 3 reasons why Ricochet should become the new champion this Sunday.

#3 Return of the United States Open Challenge

Deserving superstars like Robert Roode can get some TV time
Deserving superstars like Robert Roode can get some TV time

While the 24/7 Championship has allowed all the lower mid-card superstars to appear on TV, the way they are chasing the title is not something which will establish them as stars on RAW. WWE needs to give the US title to Ricochet and allow him to defend the title week in and week out.

We saw some major improvements on RAW this week as many fans are billing it as the best RAW of 2019. The return of the US title match could improve the content much more. Ricochet can defend the title on a weekly basis against the likes of Cesaro, Robert Roode, Bobby Lashley, Mojo Rawley, Sami Zayn and even faces like Zack Ryder, Cedric Alexander and Rey Mysterio.

This will not only elevate the US title to the next level but also establish Ricochet as a premier superstar.

#2 Samoa Joe vs Rey Mysterio feud does not need the US title

This feud does not need any championships
This feud does not need any championships

Over the last few months, WWE had stalled the United States Championship by involving it in the feud between Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio. Though both the superstars know how to entertain the audience, their matches failed to capture the attention of the fans. Mysterio currently nursing an injury, but if his post-injury interview is anything to go by, then the Master of 619 will return to the ring very very soon.

The Rey Mysterio-Samoa Joe-Dominic saga does not need the US title, as the presence of the two stars is enough to pull the fans towards it.

It would be great if WWE understands this soon because the moment Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton came out of the United States Championship picture last year, their feud escalated to the next level. So, the same can be expected from the Samoa Joe vs Rey Mysterio rivalry.

#1 Ricochet may get lost in the mix if he loses

He needs a big win
He needs a big win

Ricochet has got a rare chance to win the United States Championship, and if WWE squanders this opportunity and then we may not see the One and Only in the title picture at least until SummerSlam. Given that he is pretty new to the main roster, he will not be featured in the world title picture anytime soon and the chances that WWE reunites him with Aleister Black are negligible.

So, the best thing for Ricochet here is to grab that United States Championship and deliver stellar matches week in and week out. The fans have always criticized WWE's inability of converting NXT stars into main roster superstars. If Ricochet loses to Samoa Joe this Sunday, then it is likely that we may see him feature in meaningless matches on the future editions of RAW.
