WWE SummerSlam predictions - Part 3

Daniel Bryan vs John Cena

Continuing from WWE SummerSlam Part 1 and WWE SummerSlam Part 2,

Man, this PPV is really jam-packed this year. I haven’t even gotten to the last two main events yet!

World Championship: Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio (Champion) - Unfortunately, I think Alberto Del Rio will be retaining the title here, but that is no guarantee.

I say “unfortunately” because, in all honesty, ADR is, at least in my opinion, one of the worst workers in the company right now. He went from Ted DiBiase-style rich guy in the beginning, to one of the most generic and unnecessary faces in the company and back to a heel, all in a year’s time.

However, in his second heel run, much like when he was a face, he’s completely generic. And while he used to be somewhat of a competent competitor in the ring, his matches have devolved into nothing but kick fests, with over half of his offence moves being kicks (and terrible ones that; you can see him faking them a mile away).

However, ADR is a master politician backstage, which has allowed him to remain at the top of the card since pretty much his debut. At the same time, he is reportedly very hazardous to work with in the ring thanks to carelessness and selfishness, and it has resulted in several competitors being injured. Because of this, there is a small chance Christian could actually come out as the champion.

While it seems unlikely, there definitely is a chance. He has defeated ADR for the title in the past and has defeated him twice in two weeks. Plus, ADR recently turned on Ricardo Rodriguez, so there’s a chance he could cost ADR the match in some way. It seems like a long shot, given ADR’s track record, but I am holding out hope on that small chance.

WWE Championship (Triple H will be the special referee): Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena (Champion) - As much as I dislike Cena, I am really looking forward to this match. When Cena is put into the ring with guys who are great wrestlers and not just entertainers, he forces himself to step up his game and wrestle a different style of match (if you don’t believe me, look at his two matches on PPV with CM Punk in 2011, as well as his numerous matches with Shawn Michaels several years ago), and it benefits everyone.

Fans get harsh on him a little bit less, and he gets praise that he actually deserves for putting in a great effort. This time, he is facing Daniel Bryan for what I believe is the first time, with Bryan considered by many as being the best wrestler in the world.

I’d say these two would easily go for half-hour and trade numerous holds and various high spots, not to mention countless false finishes. While this match will be great no matter what, I have to say that I am very disappointed with the addition of Triple H as the guest referee.

This match didn’t need a guest referee, and the only reason he’s been added to this match is because the rumour is he will turn heel and feud with Vince McMahon over control of the company in the next few months.

As a result of that, I potentially see a screwjob finish coming, which will bring down the rating of what otherwise could be a 5-star classic.

Now, as for the winner of this match, while it would not surprise me to see Daniel Bryan win (I guarantee he will be WWE Champion at some point in the future), I don’t think it’s going to happen, and that’s really unfortunate.

WWE basically wants to book Cena like they did Hulk Hogan in the mid-80s to early 90s, giving him “legendary” status (take that for what it’s worth). This means he’ll likely be booked to win over the monsters in the company like Mark Henry and Ryback (which he already did), as well as the best wrestlers on the roster, like Bryan.

I want to be so wrong in this match, you have no idea. Unfortunately, I know how WWE thinks when it comes to Cena, and this is a situation where I think I am right, and I really wish I was wrong.
