WWE: Top 5 most polarizing superstars today

A bad guy in the WWE controls the crowd by getting some great heat i.e. jeers or hate. A good guy should garner a good pop i.e. cheers. When the audience does these accorded actions, they seem to be obedient to what the WWE wants them to do. But sometimes fans disobey this tradition. And therein comes the emergence of a ‘tweener’. There are wrestlers who possess an ambivalent nature. They are, in wrestling jargon, called tweeners. They get a dual chant from the audience. Some love them and some hate them, a quality that the WWE attributes majorly to John Cena.

To be a great heel or a great babyface is a difficult task but highly rewarding. But mostly superstars tend to fall in the middle.

Here are the top 5 superstars out of the lot.

5. AJ Lee

Nobody as of now seems to be knowing whether to cheer her or not. So much so that the WWE website uploaded an article on AJ being a polarizing personality and left it up to the audience to make their decision. Okay, so if the WWE creative does not know what to do with her character, let the audience take the lead. Okay? Okay.

4. The Shield

They are doing well as a predominantly heel group but it just can’t be denied that they’ve been part of some of the most awesome matches since they debuted. If you compile the number of ‘This Is Awesome’ chants that they have together or individually received, it’ll be more than what any popular babyface, even Daniel Bryan, has received.

But, defeating these guys is an achievement in itself. And the boost that has been given to the careers of Goldust and Rhodes is incredible. Most hardcore fans adore the Shield for their team members’ past wrestling history or just their cool entrance or matches.

3. The Real Americans

It seems like the ‘We The People’ Chants are catching fire. Even though the team is based on the quintessential populist heel WWE formula, Swagger, Cesaro and Colter’s alliance is a gathering storm which can be credited to the charisma they exude, whether it’s Cesaro and Swagger’s team work or Zeb Colter’s mic work. If Only, the WWE would stop overexploiting Cesaro’s giant swing!

2. Triple H

There is no doubt that Triple H was the greatest heel of the Attitude Era, but even when he became a babyface later on in his career, the fact that he was married to the chairman’s daughter and hence the arguments that opportunities were just handed to him on a silver platter, never left him.

Every great hero needs a great villain and during the Attitude Era, he was a great villain to every great hero. Right now he is a heel but when his theme song blares through the arena to “Bow Down to the King”, you will find a substantial amount of people bowing down… to a heel.

1. John Cena

There is no one who has so many passionate admirers and detractors as John Cena. No One. He is a great babyface and at the same time he can be called a great heel. And WWE has already accepted that and that is why it seems his character will remain the way it is for the rest of his career.
