MS Dhoni reflects on the time when Ranchi was considered Karachi

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni who was in his native city Ranchi to inaugurate the Country Cricket Club at JSCA stadium remembered when Ranchi would get confused for the Pakistan city Karachi.

“Just before my debut I was in Kenya. When I scored a century several people asked me where I belong to. When I said Ranchi, they said, okay, after partition your Mummy and Papa must have come to this side. I said not Karachi, Ranchi," said Dhoni.

The 32-year-old praised Ranchi for making it into one of the best stadiums in India.

The World Cup winning captain also praised the JSCA stadium and said that the stadium has done well in the last one and half years and has caught the attention of the cricketing world.

"Whichever foreign player I interacted with, everyone has said this is one of the best stadiums in India and among the top two in the world where cricket is played," Dhoni said. "When I first saw the site of this stadium it was difficult to imagine that the stadium can be like this," he added.

JSCA president Amitabh Chowdhury credited Dhoni for making Ranchi popular.

JSCA stadium was inaugurated in January 2013 and has since hosted two One Day international, six IPL and five Champions League matches including becoming home to two times IPL champions Chennai Super Kings which is captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni after Chennai failed to host any IPL matches this year.
