WWE Battleground 2014: 5 things WWE can do to ruin the pay-per-view

The stage has been set well for WWE’s Battleground and the pay-per-view is packed with some exciting matches waiting to thrill the fans. All matches of Sunday have a well-defined angle to them making it easier for the fans to involve. It is arguably one of the best buildups that WWE has given for a pay-per-view this year and the fact of Battleground being the last stop before SummerSlam just raises the stake higher. With higher stakes come more space to screw up and knowing how unpredictable the WWE creative is, it might not be surprising if they mess something up on Sunday. So here is a look at some of the things that could ruin Battleground.

#5 A divas title change

The divas division is finally starting to show some life with AJ Lee and Paige on top. Apart from these there has been some storylines coming out of the division, but the fans are well aware of the fact that its AJ and Paige who deserves to represent the divas.

WWE has been building up a match between the two but didn’t give enough time for the angle to play out properly. AJ got the title from Paige as part of the feud and WWE wouldn’t want to put the title back on Paige.

Another title change would make the title look worthless even though it will push forward the feud.

AJ retaining the title on the other hand would give Paige all the ammunition she needs to make her impending heel turn a success.

#4 Ending Swagger Rusev Feud

Simply speaking, Jack Swagger is the best thing that has happened to Rusev in his career so far. Rusev failed to evoke any kind of emotion among the fans during his wrecking of jobber and the same happened when WWE tried to build Big E as a patriot.

However, Swagger and Zeb Colter have done wonders with the angle as it suited they’re persona well in addition to the heat that Lana was having for her promos.

WWE also gave time to build Swagger as a good competitor for the Bulgarian Brute and the last thing they would want to do after this would be to let the feud end with just one match.

It has all the potential to head straight into SummerSlam and WWE should try to lay the groundwork for that at Battleground itself instead of giving Rusev a dominant win.

#3 Usos retaining tag titles

The Usos have been Tag team champions for more than three months now and has done nothing to improve the division other than some great matches.

One thing to blame for the same would be the company’s failure in having new tag teams in division to support the Usos. Wyatt Family is the only credible opponent that the champions have and this has led to the second major match in two months between the teams.

WWE universe is more than desperate to see a title change in the tag team department and if WWE doesn’t make it happen, the Wyatt family will have nothing to show in the near future while Usos will be left with no opponents at Summerslam.

#2 Burying Ambrose, again

Last year during this time of the year, WWE had Daniel Bryan who was immensely over with the fans but was screwed over by the Authority again and again.

This time, it’s Ambrose in the same situation as he looks to settle a score with Seth Rollins. Ambrose despite being a hit with the WWE Universe hasn’t had many wins to show in his resume after the Shield broke up.

He is in desperate need of some good wins before the fans start to see him as a superstar who can’t back up his words.

A clean win for Rollins is the only thing that WWE should avoid doing as the option of Ambrose getting screwed by Authority would only make him stronger in the longer run.

#1 A Sting debut

Sting’s debut is one of the most awaited incidents in WWE, Period. After revealing that he will be part of WWE 2K15, the fans are having their hopes higher than ever about the Icon finally stepping inside a WWE ring.

Though it is an exciting prospect, Battleground is clearly not the best place to do the same.

The pay-per-view match has a lot of matches that could steal the show with in ring action and a Sting appearance could just overshadow the whole effort put in by the superstars.

No matter how Sting makes his return, the fans will be blindly end up saying that Battleground was all about Sting which will work against WWE who will be looking to carry some momentum to SummerSlam with the help of matches on Sunday.
