A WWE legend who is reportedly a free agent has commented on the possibility of returning to the company with a popular gimmick.
The name in question is none other than Matt Hardy. He was signed to AEW until recently but seemingly chose not to ink a new deal with the promotion after his contract expired. This sparked speculations about Hardy's potential return to the global juggernaut as 'Broken' Matt Hardy.
Hardy also fueled the rumors with some recent cryptic posts on social media. Uncle Howdy is widely expected to return to WWE programming soon, possibly to form the rumored Wyatt 6 faction in memory of the late great Bray Wyatt. The former United States Champion's posts have hinted that he could be a part of the group, with him bringing back his eerie gimmick.
On a recent edition of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the WWE legend was asked whether the potential formation of Wyatt 6 would be appealing to him. Hardy replied:
"Yeah, I mean, anytime I have the opportunity to do 'Broken' Matt Hardy, that's appealing to me. I'm much more open and willing I think to do 'Broken' Matt Hardy than to do regular Matt Hardy at this stage of the game. Why? you may ask, 'Broken' Matt Hardy is much more entertainment-driven, Matt Hardy can still go out and you still have good matches."
Hardy further explained that he was planning to integrate more entertainment into his character work at this stage of his career.
"But to really go out there and be extreme in the late '90s and early 2000s whatever, that is much more challenging for me. I feel like it is more beneficial to me to work much smarter, as opposed to trying to work harder and also work in a way that I integrate a lot of entertainment into whatever I'm doing. WWE seemingly teased a much-anticipated return on RAW
This past Monday on RAW, WWE displayed a QR code that led fans to a cryptic video with bizarre messages. Many believed the company was teasing Uncle Howdy's return, as similar QR codes were shown on TV before Bray Wyatt's iconic comeback in 2022.
Howdy was not been seen on TV since last year. In the abovementioned video, a message flashed saying, 'PATEINCE_ItsAlmostTime.' A fan on Twitter connected the phrase to one of Wyatt's tweets from June 2022.
Only time will tell if Uncle Howdy is actually set for a WWE return and whether he will form a faction upon his arrival.
