Jujutsu Kaisen could have had a "Holy Trinity", and Usami's late introduction spoiled it

Jujutsu Kaisen has reached its conclusion after 271 intense chapters and there has been a mixed response. Some fans feel that creator Gege Akutami should have continued the series for a while longer and tied up loose ends, some feel that the series ended on an uplifting note with the central trio reunited and others believe the series reached its natural end.

Nonetheless, there seems to be one point that many lovers of the series seem to agree on - Jujutsu Kaisen missed out on the opportunity to show the "Holy Trinity" of Usami, Kento Nanami and Hiromi Higuruma in action. Many were waiting patiently to see the three sorcerers and likely find out more, but that didn't seem to happen as all focus was on the Shinjuku Arc featuring the final battle of Ryomen Sukuna vs the Jujutsu High students.

Jujutsu Kaisen has a wide roster of characters, each unique and with impressive abilities that set them apart. Among these very many faces, fans seemed to fall in with Kento Nanami and Hiromi Higuruma. Another sorcerer who heavily intrigued fans was Usami. Three of them have gained the nickname of the "Holy Trinity".

Nanami was unfortunately killed by Mahito during the Shibuya Incident. He never made it to the Shinjuku Showdown or even got to fulfill his dream of travelling to Malaysia. Elsewhere, Higuruma was tipped to be a sorcerer with immense potential, possibly on par with Gojo Satoru. But his time in the spotlight too was limited and he bowed out of the final arc relatively early on.

Finally comes Usami, a sorcerer we know almost nothing about. Given the latest information on Usami, he seems to be a male Grade 1 Sorcerer. Atsuya Kusakabe mentioned him in chapter 253 - other sorcerers labelled Kusakabe as the strongest and Kusakabe himself excluded himself and Usami from the debate. But even so, he is supposed to be the strongest Grade 1 Sorcerer.

What seemed to upset fans was the missed opportunity to rope these 3 sorcerers into action. Introducing Usami during the Shinjuku Showdown looked to be the perfect opportunity to expand on the character. Higuruma too contributed to the fight but suffered grave injuries and Nanami did not make it that far. It could also be the similarity between Nanami and Higuruma that made fans want to see this "Holy Trinity" come together in Jujutsu Kaisen.

There seems to be collective disappointment that this "Holy Trinity" did not make an appearance in the series. As such, fans were quick to take to social media to share their feelings and voice their opinions on the matter. Needless to say, many did expect them to see and particularly learn more about Usami.

"I wonder if we’ll be seeing usami fanart now" - an X user commented.

Given how little we know of Usami, his art being released following the end of the series was a major point of interest. Before this, there were countless rumors and theories surrounding this sorcerer and what he might be like. Akutami cleared that confusion and showcased what he thought the character to be. This opens the doors for fanart of the character and possibly fan-made inclusions into the story.

"So why would they create this character or is there a part two coming" - a fan questioned.

Another section of the fandom is yet hopeful for more Jujutsu Kaisen content. Presently, there is no new information on part II. That seems fair since the series drew to a close very recently and the authors might not have thought of a second part. Rather than a second part, a spin-off seems more likely, possibly focusing more on support characters who became fan-favorites, like Nanami, Kusakabe and Higuruma.

"At least 2 of them still alive" - a netizen pointed out.

One fan pointed put that among the "Holy Trinity", 2 of the 3 were yet alive. While Nanami has been confirmed to be deceased at the hands of the despicable Mahito, the status of Usami remains unknown. It is being presumed that Usami is elsewhere, alive and well, away from Shinjuku. On the flip side, Kusakabe's heroics bought time for the arrival of help for Team Jujutsu High which contributed to their victory.

"Every time these posts forget Kusakabe I get sad" - a fan posted.

Lastly, a part of the fandom felt strongly that Atsuya Kusakabe should have also been mentioned somewhere in the "Holy Trinity". In that case, it would become the "Divine Quadruple" with four incredibly powerful sorcerers who do not look the part but possess the skill set. No doubt, Kusakabe has come in clutch when needed despite attitude when it comes to fighting. He showed his mettle against Kenjaku and now against the Demon King, a true sorcerer.
