Monday, May 20, 2024 saw the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Toei Animation announce an upcoming collaboration between their One Piece anime and the Las Vegas Sphere event venue. According to the official post from Toei Animation, there will be a “stunning, larger than life display of the anime series” from Monday, June 10, through Sunday, June 16, 2024 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

Further details haven’t been specified as of this article’s writing, but it’s suspected that highlights of recent arcs from the One Piece anime will be shown on the Sphere during this time.

The next most likely route is a set of new promotional material designed specifically for display on the Sphere, especially considering other recent collaborations the anime series has done.

The One Piece anime’s impending collaboration with the Sphere event venue is the latest in a string of impressive collaborations for series creator Eiichiro Oda’s franchise.

Recently announced was a collaboration between the franchise and the MLB’s Boston Red Sox team. Before this in the 2023 NFL regular season, the franchise collaborated with the Los Angeles Rams team for one of their home games in December 2023 against the Cleveland Browns.

One of the biggest reasons why Oda’s series may be getting so many of these collaborations is due to the success of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the original manga series.

Having premiered before in August 2023 before all three of these collaborations, it suggests that the adaptation succeeded in exposing the franchise to people who otherwise wouldn’t see it.

There’s also the fact that Oda’s manga is history’s best-selling with 523.2 million copies in circulation in 61 countries and regions worldwide as of December 2023. Apart from being history’s best-selling manga series, it’s also the best-selling comic series printed in book volume, a list that also includes American comics from Marvel, DC and other publishers.

It’s expected that additional information regarding this latest collaboration for the One Piece anime series will be made available as June draws nearer.

This information will likely cover any additional special events the collaboration is birthing, as well as more details on exactly what the Sphere will display throughout this week-long partnership.

Oda’s original manga series first premiered in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump manga publication in July 1997, where it is still ongoing and regularly serialized today.

However, Oda himself has confirmed that the series is in its Final Saga, which began with the Egghead arc in Summer 2023. Oda’s latest comments on how much time the series has left, which came roughly at the same time as the Final Saga’s start, put it at three years of serialization left.

Toei Animation’s television anime adaptation of Oda’s manga began in October 1999, and has aired weekly on a regular basis since. A remake of the One Piece anime was recently announced and is set to be produced by Wit Studios and Netflix. Additional information on this remake beyond its existence is unavailable as of this article’s writing.
