Mackenzie Mgbako, Indiana Hoosiers' small forward, was born on November 18, 2004. He attended Gill St. Bernard's School but later moved to Roselle Catholic High School. Graduating as a five-star recruit in 2023, he opted for Indiana University, Bloomington. Mgbako received the 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year award and was selected for the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

Mgbako played in 33 games in 2023-24, and in 16 of his last 18 games, including three 20-point games, he scored in double digits. By the end of the season, his average was 12.1 points (377 total), 4.1 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.4 steals. Compared to the next closest Hoosier, he had 24 more made threes than the other player on the team, totaling 50.

He then opted for the Duke Blue Devils, Memphis, Kentucky, and Ohio State. In his junior year, he averaged 19.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists.

Prior to his final year, Mgbako moved to Roselle Catholic High School, under head coach Dave Boff. He was also named for the 2023 Jordan Brand Classic and Nike Hoop Summit. During his senior year, Mgbako was chosen to participate in the 2023 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. Over the course of the 16-game season, he averaged 16.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. However, he missed one month because of an ankle injury.

Based on 247Sports composite rankings, the five-star recruit from Roselle Catholic in New Jersey was ranked eighth in the 2023 class.
