Indiana Hoosiers’ Donaven McCulley was close to leaving the program after an impressive 2023 season but decided to return for his final year of eligibility. Born on January 15, 2003, McCulley played high school football at Lawrence North High School where he was rated a four-star prospect by Rivals and 247Sports. He led North High to their first winning season since 2005 in his senior year. He was honored with the Marion County Male Athlete and Player of the Year award. The dual-threat quarterback from Indianapolis concluded his prep career with 6,211 passing yards, 1,274 rushing yards, and 47 touchdowns.

The No.3 prospect in the state of Indiana started his collegiate football journey with Hoosiers over offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Wake Forest among a few. In his true freshman year with the Hoosiers, McCulley saw action in six games with four starts, passing for 475 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. After the conclusion of the 2021 season, the highest-ranked quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class moved to wide receiver ahead of his sophomore season. In 2022, McCulley appeared in all 12 games and reeled in 16 catches for 169 yards. Last season as a junior and in his second year in his new position, McCulley had a productive season at Indiana racking up 48 receptions for 644 yards and six touchdowns. McCulley earned an All-Big Ten honorable mention after a breakout 2023 junior season.
