Ernest Hausmann is an emerging college footballer, playing as a linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines, as of 2024. Hausmann attended Columbus High School, where he showcased his versatility as a two-way player. He excelled as a wide receiver on offense and as a cornerback and linebacker on defense. In his senior year, he recorded 80 tackles, nine touchdowns, and 600 receiving yards, earning him recognition as a four-star recruit and one of the top players in Nebraska by various scouting services including On3. His performance helped lead the Columbus Discoverers to a state playoff appearance.

In December 2021, Hausmann committed to play for the Nebraska Cornhuskers after receiving a scholarship offer. He enrolled early at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in January 2022 and made an immediate impact as a true freshman. He played in all 12 games that season, starting seven, and finished with 54 tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. Notably, during a game against Michigan, he recorded ten tackles and his first career sack. After the 2022 season at Nebraska, Hausmann entered the NCAA transfer portal and was rated as the top player available. He subsequently transferred to the University of Michigan in late December 2022. In his first season with the Wolverines (2023), he appeared in all 15 games and contributed significantly to the team's success, finishing third on the roster with 46 tackles. His standout performance in the Big Ten Championship game against Iowa earned him Defensive Player of the Week honors after he recorded eight tackles. In 2024, Hausmann became a starting linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines.
