Marvin Mims attended Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas. The school has a deep interest in sports, competing in several other sports aside from football like basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, and a host of others. Mims’s performance at high school was rewarded with numerous honors such as being named the District 13-5A Offensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore, the District 5-5A-I Offensive MVP after posting 1,290 yards and 14 touchdowns in his sophomore season, and also named Mr. Texas Football as a senior.


His high school career ended with a total of 4,828 receiving yards which makes him the Texas high school state record holder in a career and 2,626 receiving yards in a season with 31 touchdowns on 114 catches as a senior. He helped Lone Star High School to a 14-1 record and the Texas 5A D-1 state semifinals.


Marvin Mims was rated a four-star recruit which made him receive offers from multiple college programs. This includes Arizona State Sun Devils, Ohio State Buckeyes, Stanford Cardinal, TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and several others. Mims initially gave his words to Stanford Cardinals football. However, he changed his mind during his senior year at high school and committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.



Marvin Mims’ College Career

Marvin Mims played in all 11 games, making one start in his freshman year with the Oklahoma Sooners. He led the team with 610 yards and nine touchdowns on 37 receptions. He established an Oklahoma Sooners’ freshman record with nine touchdown catches tied for the Big 12 lead. He registered a career-high seven receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown in the Big 12 Championship win against Iowa State.


After recording a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns on four receptions and 61 return yards against TCU, he was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. He was the first wide receiver in the school’s history to earn FWAA Freshman All-American status and he also earned freshman All-American honors from The Athletic and ESPN.


In his sophomore season, he registered five catches for 117 yards in the season opener against Tulane. He led the team with 705 yards on 32 receptions and had five touchdowns to rank as the second most on the squad. He played in 13 games and made 11 starts that season. He led the Big 12 and ranked fourth nationally with his 22.0 yards per reception. His career-long 67-yard touchdown reception against Texas Tech was the team’s longest play of the season. His 52-yard touchdown grab in the fourth quarter vs. the Longhorns allowed the Sooners to tie the game and erase a 21-point deficit. He was part of an All-Big 12 honorable mention choice by the league’s head coaches and an Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honoree.



Marvin Mims tallied 81 yards on three catches in the season opener vs. UTEP in his junior year. He played in all 13 games and made 12 starts, the only game he didn’t start was against Kent State. He led the Big 12 in yards per reception and ranked second in receiving yards with 1,083 yards and had six touchdowns. He set a career-high nine receptions for 106 yards against Kansas.


He also registered a career-high 163 yards and two touchdowns on seven receptions against Kent State. He was named a first-team All-Big 12 selection by the league’s head coaches and a second-team All-Big 12 choice by AP. He ranks third in school history with his 19 receptions of at least 40 yards and he is definitely more than ready to handle the pressure of playing football professionally.
