Xavier Johnson is an American professional football wide receiver for the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL). His football career started in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played at Summit Country Day High School. Johnson finished his high school career with 32 receptions for 766 yards and 8 touchdowns, as well as 623 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He also made waves on special teams, scoring six times via punt or kickoff returns, including a remarkable 99-yard interception return. Although he had scholarship offers from several colleges, Johnson opted to walk on at Ohio State.

In 2018, Johnson began his collegiate football career with the Buckeyes. Over his six seasons with the Buckeyes, Johnson appeared in 56 games, making key contributions as a wide receiver, running back, and standout special teams player.

Johnson's statistics throughout his college career were impressive. He rushed for 346 yards on 40 carries, averaging 8.4 yards per attempt, and added a touchdown to his rushing total. As a receiver, he caught 26 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson was also a force on special teams, returning 27 kickoffs for 582 yards, averaging 21.5 yards per return. His biggest moments came during the 2022 season, where he had a standout performance with a 24-yard touchdown reception against Notre Dame and a highlight-reel 37-yard touchdown catch against Georgia in the Peach Bowl. His impact was not just limited to the field—he earned his degree in consumer and family financial services in December 2021 and completed a master’s in translational data analysis in 2023.

Johnson is a part of the Houston Texans’ practice squad as of 2024.
