5 players on whom CSK could use the Right To Match(RTM) card

CSK will return to the fold in IPL 11

Prior to the retention day, it was probably the easiest to predict who the Chennai Super Kings would retain ahead of the auctions later this month.

Expectedly, the two-time champions chose to get back MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja, leaving them with the option of choosing two players as Right-To-Match on auctions day.

We look at the players on who they could use the card, that day.

#5 Dwayne Smith

The West Indian all-rounder was part of the franchise for two seasons (2014 and 2015), opened the batting with Brendon McCullum and got the side off to a blazing start, on many an occasion.

In those two seasons, Smith scored seven fifties with the bat and the franchise will keep him as an option and solve one half of their problem at the top of the order.

#4 Faf du Plessis

The South African captain will provide the side good stability in the middle order if the franchise play the Right-To-Match card on him.

The right-hander was part of the team for four seasons between 2011 to 2015 and put in reasonable performances during his time with the team.

The added advantage with Faf in the team would be that he would add great value in the field and the fact he leads his national team in all formats, the captain of the team could look up to him for any suggestions as well in the middle.

#3 Brendon McCullum

McCullum will be one player the franchise will look to get back using the Right-To-Match(RTM) card.

He added great value to the side during his stay at the CSK, providing many an explosive start along with Dwayne Smith at the top of the order.

Also, the fact the despite having entered his late 30s, he remains one of the most athletic fielders will be of a great help for the side and it remains to be seen if the franchise use the RTM card on him.

#2 Andrew Tye

One of the best T20 bowlers, going around, Andrew Tye was one of the star performers, in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Gujarat Lions last year, when he took 12 wickets in 6 matches, including a hat-trick, before he had to leave the scene due to injury.

The franchise will certainly look to avail his services as he could prove to be an asset at the end of the innings, along with doing an economical job in the middle of the innings.

#1 Dwayne Bravo

If retaining the three Indians was a no-brainer for the franchise, then using the Right-To-Match on Dwayne Bravo could be another easy choice.

Arguably, the greatest T20 bowler ever, the West Indian has 406 wickets to his name in the shortest format and during his stay at the CSK, proved to be MS Dhoni's match-winner with the ball on many an occasion.

He can also make handy contributions with the bat and has the ability to pluck stunning catches in the field. In all, he is the type of player any team would love to have in their squad.
