Rahul Chahar, who is also referred to as Deepak Chahar's brother, is actually his cousin. He was born to Desraj Chahar and Usha Chahar in Bharatpur. Rahul started off as a fast bowler but chose to be a leggie after getting the support of his elder brother and paternal uncle, who have backed him to nurture his skills over the years. At a tender age, Rahul decided to sacrifice his education and dedicate his full attention to cricket. He finished nicely through age-level cricket and ultimately had the opportunity to represent India under-19. But his most significant moment under the sun was getting selected for Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2017. The leggie got a big opportunity to perform under the tutelage of MS Dhoni as well as Steve Smith. Though he played just 3 games, he must have learned a lot about cricket at the top level. One of his flying saves at the boundary line became a sought-after video from IPL 10.Rahul traveled to England after that with the under-19 team and did great by being one of the leading wicket-takers on the tour. But that was not enough for him to gain a ticket to New Zealand for the under-19 World Cup. He was kept as a standby for the multi-nation tournament. To add to his agony, Rahul missed most of the domestic season in 2017-18 owing to injuries. He was snapped up by Mumbai Indians for IPL 2018.By being a constant in Mumbai Indians' playing XI and by having a brother whose suggestions are valued by young players in the Rajasthan team, he has made brisk strides in the past two years.Rahul Chahar made his debut for India in 2019 and played a match against West Indies in the Caribbean. Even though he hasn’t played a single match for the national team since then, he was in the news recently. The Rajasthan and Punjab Kings’ leg-spinner, Rahul Chahar was expected to join the Indian T20I set-up against England in 2021 following Varun Chakravarthy and Rahul Tewatia failing their respective fitness tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The leg-spinner attended practice sessions with the Indian team in the first week of March 2021, and was on the reserves list, but ultimately wasn’t called up.In the 2022 IPL mega auction, Rahul Chahar was bought by Punjab Kings for a hefty sum of INR 5.25 crore. He will give his services to the Punjab Kings in the upcoming 2024 IPL season.
