Dhoni’s security cover comes under the scanner

He’s no aam aadmi! Mahendra Singh Dhoni surely knows it better than anybody else, although that humble exterior of his would never suggest anything of the sort.

Whatever Dhoni does when he is not doing national duty invariably grabs eyeballs. Whether he is attending a promotional event or visiting a temple or any social event, cops always have to remain on high alert.

But his biggest penchant – riding bikes – is the one which keeps the cops jittery. The Indian captain has been regularly undertaking bike rides in the mornings to the local stadium, and this is something which is becoming a concern for the local cops.

It is learnt that Dhoni is taking these morning bike rides to the local stadium sans any security cover, which is bothering the local police.

Sources close to the family, say that the local police have put in a request to Dhoni’s family to intimate them about the timing of his morning bike rides, so that they can provide adequate security cover for him.

Apparently, cops don’t want to take any chances as a celebrity like Dhoni is prone to threats from various quarters. Local police wants to provide escort vehicles for Dhoni whenever he is out of home.

It remains to be seen whether Dhoni indeed consents to the request of the police and informs them about his movements or whether he carries on with his morning bike rides without any security cover.

Dhoni will be in Ranchi over the next week or so as the Chennai Super Kings are playing a few matches of the Champions League T20 in his hometown.

Chennai Super Kings will play their last game in Ranchi on September 28 and until then the local police will be on overdrive.

It may be worth mentioning here that Dhoni`s security cover has been reduced from Z to Y category as per some media reports a few months back. But all such talk was brushed aside by Jharkhand police, with the state DGP Rajeev Kumar at the time stating that there won`t be any compromise on Dhoni’s security.

It is also worth recalling that Dhoni’s security was beefed up after his family received extortion threats through a letter.

The person who had sent the letter was later arrested.
