Faf du Plessis IPL Career

Having a strong temperament, and the ability to lead the side, Faf du Plessis moved up the ranks pretty quickly in his career as an international player. His hard work paid off when he was picked by CSK in 2012 and since then, he became an integral part of the Super Kings till the 2021 IPL season. In the 2022 IPL mega auction, RCB picked him in their squad for INR 7 crore and also allowed him to lead the side right from the start.

Faf du Plessis made a name for himself in the 2011 and early 2012 international cricket season while playing for South Africa. This made him bag an IPL contract after CSK picked him for INR 60 Lakhs in the 2012 edition. He then went on to be called one of the most reliable and smart players in the CSK line-up scoring runs at the most crucial times for the side.

After CSK got banned for 2 seasons in 2016 and 2017, he played for Rising Pune Supergiants at a price of around INR 4 crore. CSK returned to IPL in 2018 and he was given INR 1.6 crore till 2021.

Faf du Plessis is amongst the top-rated players in the league. With close to 4200 IPL runs, the South African cricketer has displayed his classy batting skills. With charismatic shots in his armory, he has played great knocks in the past, with 33 fifties to his name. The 2023 season was his best, where he ended up with a massive 730 runs including eight 50+ scores.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. This is a statement that du Plessis earned for himself when he played an all-important knock at the grandest stage of the IPL in the final of the 2021 edition. He struck 86 runs off just 59 balls against Kolkata Knight Riders and helped CSK win their 4th IPL trophy.

In the 2022 mega auction, Faf du Plessis was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 7 crore. In March 2022, Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain, and the responsibility of leading the side was given to du Plessis. He fulfilled the role pretty well, taking RCB into the playoffs in his debut season as the skipper. Faf scored 468 runs in the 2022 season. He was exceptional with the bat in the 2023 season, where he scored 730 runs and also became the 2nd leading run-scorer after Shubman Gill in that season.
