Shreyas Iyer IPL Career

Shreyas Iyer is a middle-order batsman who plays for the Indian National team in all formats of the game. He is the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL. Iyer was born in Mumbai and he plays domestic cricket for the hometown team.

He scored 530 runs at an average of 66.25 in the 2023 World Cup. He also made history by becoming the first Asian player to score more than 500 runs in a World Cup while batting at No. 4.

On January 23, 2024, in Hyderabad, Iyer was awarded the best international debut award by the BCCI Awards 2024 for the 2021–2022 season.

In the auction of the 8th season of the IPL, Shreyas Iyer was amongst the pool of players as a specialist batsman. He had made a big name for himself with his performance for Maharashtra in domestic cricket. His bid started with a base price of INR 10 Lacs which went up to INR 2.6 Crores after Delhi Capitals fought hard for the right-hand batsman and bought him successfully. In his first season, he scored over 400 runs in 14 games and struck 4 fifties as well. For his stellar performance, he won the Emerging Player Award for the 2015 IPL and cemented his place in the Delhi line-up.

Iyer was retained in the 2018 auction and was given the role to lead the side after Gautam Gambhir stepped down. On 27 April 2018, he became the youngest skipper of the Delhi Capitals and the 4th overall to lead any IPL side. He scored 93*(40) in his debut innings as the skipper and it was also his third-consecutive fifty of the season. He was retained for the next season too and took the Delhi Capitals to their first-ever IPL Final in 2020 where he smashed an unbeaten 65 in a losing cause against the Mumbai Indians.

In the 2022 auction, Iyer was once again up for grabs and Kolkata Knight Riders set their eyes on him and went all out for the Mumbai boy. He was bought for a huge sum of INR 12.25 Crores and was soon named the captain of the side.

In his Illustrious IPL career, Shreyas Iyer has played in 101 matches, scoring 2776 runs, including 19 fifties.
