Finishing it off, grand Dhoni style!

MS Dhoni finish

Finishing matches Dhoni style!

If you have 35+ runs to be chased down in a span of 12 balls, who will you put your money on? Well folks, this one will have plenty of replies. But again at the end of the day, there is one guy who will get the maximum votes. Having the nerves of steel, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the one who has the ability to finish off in style. He has done it again and again. He backs himself under pressure. One just cannot see a frown on his face at any juncture of the match.

Be it India or the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has been phenomenal in his own way. A bowler’s reputation doesn’t matter at all for him. Irrespective of who’s bowling to him, he will whack it hard. And when MSD swings, he swings it too hard. Full wrist power with a free swing of the willow forms the perfect ingredient of a helicopter shot which MSD has practised over the years. Why does he stand out from the rest?

Reasons are his composure and his cool head which is as cool as a pack of ice. You’ve got to have steely nerves for the kind of finishes Dhoni has given. He keeps rotating the strike, steals the ones and twos and at the end, blasts away to provide the most amazing finishes one can ever witness; in truly grand Indian cinema style. The most amazing thing about Dhoni is him taking the match to the last over and then finishing it off. It’s a fact that if Dhoni bats up the order, his tally of runs will sky rocket but nobody on this earth would be able to finish it the Dhoni way. And that is the reason Dhoni has been providing the finishing touches.

Remember IPL 2010? Against Kings XI Punjab, Dhoni produced a masterclass finish. He whacked Irfan Pathan and did the impossible.

Then CLT20 2013, remember the Thisara Perera over, which went for 30 runs and resulted in Dhoni making 63 off 19 balls? Then India needing 15 of last 5 in tri-series final last year and Dhoni smashing Kulasekara for 6,4 and a 6. The list goes on and on. And each example will strengthen the fact that MS Dhoni truly is the best finisher in the modern era. For MS Dhoni, it is wrist power which results in those amazing sixes. His show has been full of brute power and puts him on the top of the list of finishers in world cricket.

The most injury free cricketer in the world, who has the most work load than anybody else in the cricketing fraternity, Dhoni still remains number one when it comes to finishing matches. The reason is he never panics, and half the job is done when one has got the ability to overpower the pressure-cooker situations.

Secondly, he backs himself in any situation, and the bowler doesn’t matter nor does the quality of the delivery. After all, he has sent Yorkers out of the park. When all this comes together, the result is mayhem, an absolute carnage which snatches the game away from the opposition.

What’s unique about Dhoni is his insistence of taking games to the last over. His psychology is totally different. People say MS Dhoni does it for fame, point taken, but you got to have guts to do it even for fame. Finishing things off Dhoni style requires much more than just plain luck.
