Rishabh Pant pens heartfelt note on Nicholas Pooran’s shock retirement from international cricket

Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant shared a heartfelt message for Nicholas Pooran following the latter’s retirement from international cricket. The 29-year-old announced his decision via an Instagram post on Tuesday, June 10, writing:

“After much thought and reflection, I’ve decided to announce my retirement from International Cricket. This game we love has given and will continue to give so much – joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies."

He added:

"Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field... it’s hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I’ve always held close to my heart.”

On Wednesday, June 11, Pant shared a sincere tribute for Pooran on social media following the West Indian cricketer’s retirement from international cricket. Pant wrote on his Instagram story:

“You have made your mark bro – a true teammate, friend and an absolute powerhouse. Proud to have shared the field with you. Congrats on everything you have done for West Indies cricket. Wishing you nothing but success for the road ahead. Respect always.”

Pooran represented the West Indies in 61 ODIs, scoring 1,983 runs at an average of 39.66 and a strike rate of 99.15, including 11 half-centuries and three centuries. In T20Is, he featured in 106 matches, amassing 2,275 runs at an average of 26.14 and a strike rate of 136.39, with 13 fifties to his name.

In IPL 2025, he represented LSG and scored 524 runs in 14 matches at an average of 43.66 and a strike rate of 196.25.


Rishabh Pant set to return to action in Test series vs. England

Rishabh Pant is set to return to action in the upcoming five-match Test series between India and England, beginning June 20 in Leeds. The 27-year-old will serve as the vice-captain, with Shubman Gill leading the side for the first time.

Pant has represented India in 43 Tests, scoring 2,948 runs at an average of 42.11 and a strike rate of 73.62, including 15 half-centuries and six centuries.
