Ranking the best swords in The Witcher 3 can be a bit difficult. Each set comes with its own unique strengths and weaknesses that ultimately depend on the type of build you use. However, certain weapons do provide you with a noticeable stat buff that becomes even more apparent if you are playing at higher difficulties.

This article lists the 10 best swords in The Witcher 3 based on their effectiveness, including some that you can obtain from both the expansions of the game.

Top 10 Swords From The Witcher 3 Game (Ranked)

10) Viper Swords (Steel and Silver)

The first set of Witcher School Gear that you can acquire are the Viper Swords during the prologue. This pair of swords is extremely powerful during the early sections as it has high attack and the ability to inflict poison on the enemy.

While the Viper Swords remain some of the best swords in The Witcher 3's earlier section, you cannot upgrade this set like the other Witcher School Gear, making it extremely useless as you level up.

9) Bloodsword (Silver)

The Bloodsword is a great weapon that you can obtain from the Skellige Isle's chain of side quests. Although this particular sword lacks any special types of attack or magical abilities, the Relic status makes it an extremely handy blade to use.

The Bloodsword is also great at inflicting debuffs like Bleed on enemies. This is one of the best swords in The Witcher 3, but you might find better options later on. Hence, it earns only the ninth spot on this list.

8) Griffin Swords (Steel and Silver)

The Griffin set of swords makes for an excellent pair and can be considered among the best gear for endgame content, similar to the Griffin armor set. This particular pair will allow you to deal increased crit and sign damage, given you want to build Geralt that way.

The Griffin blades, while being one of the best swords in The Witcher 3, unfortunately, do not hold a candle to some of the later entries on this list.

7) Feline Swords (Steel and Silver)

Like the Griffin Swords, the Feline ones are also part of a Witcher School Gear set. This set increases the speed of your attacks, while also buffing your crit chance. It is one of the best swords in The Witcher 3 that you can get.

Similar to other Witcher School Gear sets, the Feline Swords require a full set to be effective. While the Feline Witcher set is great, it makes for a quite risky glass cannon playstyle that can frustrate you if you are playing the game at higher difficulties. So this pair of swords gets seventh place in this list.

6) Ursine Swords (Steel and Silver)

The core of the Ursine Witcher Gear set is protecting you against damage and dealing as much as powerful strikes as possible at the cost of speed. The Ursine set of swords is great if you want to devastate your enemies with dismemberment and critical strike-related buffs, as well as boost the rate of Adrenaline Points gained in combat.

This pair of weapons has been put at sixth place on this list of best swords in The Witcher 3 for the sole reason that the next few options are even better.

5) Wolven Swords (Steel and Silver)

The Wolven Swords are one of the best swords in The Witcher 3's base game, and probably the best pair you can acquire besides Tlareg without the DLCs. These give you a plethora of buffs, ranging from increasing sign damage to adrenaline gain, and even a chance at inflicting a Bleed status effect on enemies.

The Wolven Swords can be considered the jack of all trades yet the master of none, hence ranked at the fifth spot on this list of best swords in The Witcher 3.

4) Manticore Swords (Steel and Silver)

The Blood and Wine expansion added the Dutchy of Toussaint in the game as well as a plethora of weapons; some of these can be considered the best swords in The Witcher 3. The Manticore Witcher Gear is among them, and the pair of blades you get are exceptional.

The biggest problem with the set is that it unlocks quite late into the game. By the time you reach Toussaint and finish upgrading it to Grandmaster level, you will hopefully have access to Iris and Aerondight, which are better alternatives.

3) Iris (Steel)

You acquire the Iris Steel sword after you complete The Witcher 3's Hearts of Stone expansion. If you opt to and successfully save Olgierd von Everec's life from the clutches of the mysterious Gaunter O'Dimm, he will gift you this sword as a reward.

The Iris lacks any conventional buffs, but it is one of the best swords in The Witcher 3 for a simple reason. After you deal enough damage with the weapon, you can release a powerful attack that pushes back enemies; this is even more powerful than the Aard sign.

2) Tlareg (Silver)

The Tlareg sword is arguably the second-best one in the game as it scales with Geralt's level. While it may lack any special abilities, it is a universal option and can be used due to its own level getting affected by your current level.

The best part about this weapon is that it can be found randomly while you are exploring and you do not need to complete some quest or gear hunt to obtain it.

1) Aerondight (Silver)

Named after the famed sword of the knight, Sir Lancelot from the Arthurian Legends, Geralt will get this weapon after achieving certain heroic feats. Yes, similar to the tale, the Witcher should show several qualities of virtue if he wants to claim this fabled sword during his stay in the Dutchy of Toussaint.

The Aerondight is simply the best sword in The Witcher 3 because of how it works. Similar to the Tlareg, this weapon will also scale alongside Geralt's level. The Aerondight's unique charge ability allows it to deal increased damage with each strike, and if Geralt kills an opponent when the sword is fully charged, its damage permanently increases.
