How to defeat Scylla in Hades 2

Scylla is a boss in Hades 2 that many players have been tripped upon. However, while we cannot guarantee you one simple strategy to beat her every time, we do have some advice on what you should do. In fact, the guardian of Oceanus isn’t just Scylla, it’s her whole band. You have three foes to face at once, and rushing in recklessly will see you sinking to the bottom of the sea, only to try again.

The Scylla boss fight in Hades 2 features a lot of AOE on the ground, and three different attack patterns, so we understand that it can feel overwhelming. If you want some survival tips, look no further.

Thankfully, three bosses that make up Hades 2’s Scylla fight share one health bar. It can make things a little stressful, waiting to get an enemy to the point where they can’t fight anymore, and move on. There are lots of ways to approach the fight, too.

As there are three bosses, you have to consider which are the most dangerous. Below, you’ll see the order in which I fight this boss, every single time.

Recommended focus order for bosses:

  • Drummer
  • Guitarist
  • Scylla

The drummer has massive full-screen AOE attacks that have to be dodged - these come in patterns you can see and dodge through. Since she has the most range, she has to be defeated first. The guitarist can use a lunging attack which you need to dodge, or fire projectiles at you. She’s less of a threat. I tend to try and lead her away from the others, then head up to fight the drummer - unless she doesn’t chase me.

Either way, the drummer has to die first in the Hades 2 Scylla fight. Thankfully, other than her AOE projectiles, she’s no real threat. Use whichever weapons are most comfortable for you, and focus on her, avoiding anything Scylla tries to do - if she comes up your way. In my experience, the other two just let me focus on the drummer.

One thing I’m going to preach a lot about here is the power of Hestia. Her Scorch abilities deal serious damage in this fight. In particular, I try to get the Scorch ability that comes with the Cast (the ground circle).

With enough focus on Scorch abilities, it will chunk these bosses. They aren’t especially mobile either, in most cases, so you’re free to set them up. Scylla herself is annoying to fight because if you hit her clamshell, she takes no damage. You have to fight facing her - or drop AOE underneath her.

Her primal scream ability is infuriating, has a wide cone, and she can use it for several seconds, chasing after you with it. She also has a few annoying projectiles, but they can be easily evaded. You also have to look out for her slow, rotating laser beams, and her summoned wave of sea urchins.

Around 50% health, you also have to worry about Featured Artist. It will empower the abilities of one of the Sirens, forcing you to deal with them right away. When this happens, switch whatever you’re doing to fighting that enemy. Once you’ve defeated both of the other band members, phase two begins.

The fight with Scylla is much the same here, but towards the very end of the fight, this Hades 2 boss makes hitting her so much harder. She summons a massive swarm of fish that aggressively rush you down. This is why I prefer the Umbral Flame weapon - you can keep the rotating fires up to defeat the incoming fish while using other attacks.

Frankly, there’s no best weapon for this fight. Use whatever you’re comfortable with. I’ve beat her with daggers, the Umbral Flame, and the Staff, but prefer the Flame the most.

This is a fight about mobility, constantly staying on the move. So having Boons that deal damage behind you, or when you stop (Poseidon/Hestia) is always going to be efficient. Boons that buff your Omega Casts (Hestia/Apollo/Hermes) are also handy.

These enemies aren’t fast, so anything that makes your Casts/Omega Casts stronger is going to make your life easier. Another handy thing to have is the Keepsake Luckier Tooth, which essentially gives you another stack of Death Defiance. If you’re having trouble staying alive, this, and Death Defiance will also give you more chances at victory.
