Lewis Hamilton is a British racing driver who competes for Ferrari in Formula One. Hamilton owns the F1 record for career race victories and is at par with Michael Schumacher in holding the record for winning seven Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship titles. Hamilton’s racing days began when he started competing in kart racing at eight in 1993 and became the youngest driver to win the British Cadet Karting Championship at 10. In 1998, Hamilton joined the McLaren Young Driver Programme. His successful junior racing career under this program with McLaren led to a Formula One drive with the team from 2007 to 2012. After his debut season with McLaren, he became the youngest Formula One World Champion.

Hamilton was ranked as the richest British sportsperson in 2015. According to Forbes magazine, Hamilton was one of the highest-paid athletes of the 2010s and the highest-paid Formula One driver from 2013 to 2021. Hamilton joined Ferrari in 2025 and started racing with the team as the new 2025 season of Formula One went underway.

When will Lewis Hamilton retire?

Lewis Hamilton had previously signed a contract extension with Mercedes and planned to remain with the team until the end of the 2025 season. After the 2025 season, Hamilton was moving to Ferrari, with whom he reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal. However, Hamilton's contract with Mercedes broke prematurely and he signed with Ferrari to drive in the 2025 season.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Hamilton discussed his retirement plans. The seven-time Formula One champion claimed he has no plans to quit racing yet. While he is aware of the hardships and the amount of work required to drive and compete in Formula One, Hamilton is in the quest to win his eighth World Championship and become the driver with the most World Championship titles.
