James Vowles is a British motorsport engineer who currently serves as the team principal for the Williams F1 racing team. He was born on June 20, 1979, in West Sussex, Britain. During his early years, he attended the International School of Geneva before earning a bachelor's degree in computer science in 2000 from the University of East Anglia. Later, he pursued a master's from Cranfield University in motorsport engineering.
After completing his postgraduate studies, Vowels was appointed an intern with British American Racing in 2001. He stayed with the team until it was rebadged as Honda Racing F1. However, with a limited budget, the team transformed into Brawn GP. James played a vital role for the team as he was the race strategist, which ultimately made the team win its only constructor championship titles. For the next 12 years, he has been working with the Mercedes F1 team as the race director.
