Arnold Palmer

Arnold Daniel Palmer, popularly known as Arnold Daniel Palmer, needs no introduction! He was and will forever be one of the 'main men' in the history of PGA or the game of golf. The American golfer was known for this sheer talent, precision, sportsmanship and charisma! Arnold started playing for the PGAs in the 1950s and won his first ever PGA in 1955! Since then, till 1973, he was unstoppable! He is often known as 'The King', as he was indeed one of the finest golfers one has ever seen or will see! He was a trailblazer, the first dignitary of the sport's television age, which began in the 1950s.

Palmer wasn't one of a kind solely because of his talent; his presence had a social impact on golf, too! His modest origins really helped in changing the mindset of several thousands of people that golf isn't only meant for the elite upper-class, but anyone! He helped make the sport more accessible to the working & middle classes!

Palmer won 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973 in a career spanning more than six decades. Arnold is on the fifth position of the Tour's all-time victory list, with players such as Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan! He has won in almost all majors, he won seven major titles, he dominated the masters' scene for six years straight, and he also ended up winning four times within those six years! Last, but not least, he was awarded the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 to truly honour his greatness and dedication towards this sport!

Arnold Palmer’s Age

Arnold Palmer, or 'The King', was born in Youngstown, Pennsylvania, on the 10th of September 1929. He passed away on the 25th of September 2016 (shortly after his 87th birthday) while he was scheduled to have heart surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Arnold came from a humble background; his parents were Milfred "Deacon" Palmer and Dorris Palmer. Despite their humble backgrounds, and despite the common misconception, Arnold was born into a golfing family. His father, Milfred "Deacon" Palmer, worked as the greens keeper and teaching professional at the Latrobe Country Club, where they soon moved to after his birth. Latrobe was the place where Arnold learned the basics of the game from his father, who made his first set of clubs for him when he was just a boy of three years old!

With his father's help and constant practice, his popularity grew tremendously, reaching its peak in the latter half of the 20th century. Before passing away sadly at the age of 87, he had won almost 100 championships in professional golfing tours both at national and international levels. Sixty-two of the victories out of all his victories came from the US PGA Tour, and the rest varied!
