The latest Grand Theft Auto title has some of the most engaging story missions and this GTA V mission guide will help you understand the game better with the help of the missions. The title was released over a decade ago on September 17, 2013, and the gameplay still stands strong among other newer video games. You can replay the game multiple times and still not get bored of it.

This GTA V mission guide will provide a list of all the main story missions and details about the primary objectives to complete them easily.

Note: Some parts of this GTA V mission guide are subjective and only reflect the writer’s opinions. The article contains spoilers about the gameplay.

GTA V mission guide: An overview of the entire gameplay

Rockstar Games included a total of 69 story missions in Grand Theft Auto V. It is one of the biggest video games from the studio to date and can take you around 17 hours to complete.

The GTA V mission guide readers should note that the story starts from the ‘Prologue’ mission where both Michael De Santa and Trevor Philips (along with their associates) try to loot a bank in Ludendorff, North Yankton; and go all the way to ‘Endings’ where either one of the two protagonists dies (or lives, depending on your choice).

The GTA V mission guide readers should also note that Rockstar Games offers a somewhat non-linear approach in the game and most of the missions in the middle can be played without following any particular order.

However, if you want to crack the GTA 5 stock market, we advise you to avoid the Lester’s Assassination missions after ‘The Hotel Assassination’ mission.

Prologue

Michael and Trevor try to rob a bank in Ludendorff, and the heist fails due to police intervention. Michael gets shot (staged) and goes into witness protection to avoid Trevor.

Franklin and Lamar

Franklin Clinton and Lamar Davis steal two expensive cars from the Bertolt Beach House and deliver them to Simeon Yetarian’s Premium Deluxe Motorsport.

Repossession

Franklin and Lamar steal a green Bagger from the Vagos for Simeon. However, Lamar keeps it for himself. Later he gives it to Franklin.

Complications

Franklin breaks into Michael’s house to repo a car belonging to Jimmy De Santa. The mission fails and Michael ends up busting Franklin.

Father/Son

Jimmy tries to sell Michael’s boat to Marabunta Grande gangsters and he ends up as a hostage. Michael and Franklin must save him in a high-speed chase.

Marriage Counseling

Michael busts his wife Amanda De Santa’s affair with her tennis coach and chases him to his hideout. The protagonist breaks Martin Madrazo’s house thinking it belonged to the coach.

Daddy's Little Girl

Michael takes Jimmy to the beach where the latter snitches about his sister's (Tracey De Santa) activities on a yacht. Michael rushes into the scene and brings back Tracey.

Chop

Lamar kidnaps a Ballas member named D with the help of Franklin and Chop the dog.

The Long Stretch

Lamar, Stretch, and Franklin try to make a negotiation with D. The deal turns out to be an ambush causing the three characters to flee from the scene.

Friend Request

Michael visits an old friend named Lester Crest asking for help regarding the Madrazo case. Lester sends Michael on a mission to kill Jay Norris, the CEO of Lifeinvader.

Casing the Jewel Store

Michael and Lester scope out the Vangelico Jewel Store to pay Martin Madrazo’s debt. The latter will give you two approaches to loot the store: Loud and Smart.

Loud Approach: Carbine Rifles

Steal Carbine Rifles from the cops to use during the store heist.

Smart Approach: Bugstars Equipment

Steal a Bugstars Pest Control van.

Smart Approach: BZ Gas Grenades

Steal a van carrying BZ gas grenades.

The Jewel Store Job

Michael, Franklin, and a few other associates loot the Vangelico Jewel Store using any of the aforementioned approaches.

Mr. Philips

Trevor gets to know about Michael’s whereabouts through the news. Then he goes on to kill several Lost MC members and the Aztecas leader Ortega.

Nervous Ron

Trevor breaks into another fight with the Lost MC members and ends up taking their arms trading business.

Trevor Philips Industries

During a business deal with Tao Cheng, the Aztecas attack Trevor’s meth lab. The protagonist must defend the property.

Crystal Maze

Tao Cheng decides to partner up with the O'Neil Brothers instead of Trevor. So, the latter ambushes the O'Neil Ranch, kills most of the members, and burns down the house.

Friends Reunited

Trevor destroys the Lost MC's trailer park and moves into Los Santos with Wade Hebert.

Fame or Shame

Michael and Trevor reunite after nine years. Both proceed to the Maze Bank Arena to prevent Trecey from getting humiliated on the TV and teach Lazlow Jones a lesson.

Dead Man Walking

Michael meets Dave Norton to discuss Trevor's return. Dave asks Michael to infiltrate the city morgue and validate the death of a FIB suspect as a favor.

Three's Company

Steve Haines blackmails Michael to break into the IAA building and extract Mr. K.

By the Book

Trevor tortures Mr. K to extract information about a suspected terrorist so that Dave and Michael and assassinate him.

Scouting the Port

Trevor, Wade, and Floyd scope out the Port of Los Santos to steal valuable items from Merryweather Security. Trevor must choose one of two methods for the job: Freighter and Offshore Method and Offshore Method.

Freighter and Offshore Method: Minisub

Steal a submarine off a freighter.

Only Offshore Method: Cargobob

Steal a Cargobob from Fort Zancudo.

The Merryweather Heist

Trevor steals a high-tech device from Merryweather with the help of Michael and Franklin. Lester interrupts the heist and forces Trevor to return the item.

Did Somebody Say Yoga?

Michael does yoga with Amanda and her instructor Fabien LaRouche. The session goes wrong and both NPCs leave Michael. Tracey and Jimmy also leave the house after the latter drugs Michael.

Hood Safari

Lamar, Franklin, and Trevor go into a drug deal in Grove Street. The deal goes wrong and they end up fighting with the gang members.

The Hotel Assassination

Lester asks Franklin to assassinate the CEO of Bilkinton Research to manipulate the stock market. Lester rewards Franklin with a new safe house.

Buy three masks at a Vespucci Beach mask shop.

FIB Heist Setup: Boiler Suits

Buy three boiler suits at Ammu-Nation.

FIB Heist Setup: Trash Truck

Source a garbage truck for the heist.

Blitz Play

Michael, Franklin, and Trevor must ambush an armored car, steal agency funds, and deliver them to Devin Weston.

I Fought the Law…

Michael and Trevor pose as police officers and Franklin poses as a street racer. The goal is to steal an Entity XF and a Grotti Cheetah from two NPCs for Devin.

Eye in the Sky

Trevor and Franklin must steal a Truffade Z-Type for Devin Weston.

Mr. Richards

Michael must persuade Rocco Pelosi to work for Solomon Richards in his latest movie.

Caida Libre

Martin asks Michael and Trevor and shoot down his cousin’s plane and retrieve a package. Trevor ends up abducting Martin's wife Patricia Madrazo.

Deep Inside

Franklin has to enter Backlot City to steal a JB 700 for Devin.

Minor Turbulence

Trevor hijacks a Merryweather cargo plane in midair and tries to steal it. The mission fails and Trevor ends up crashing the plane into the Alamo Sea.

Paleto Score Setup

Michael, Trevor, and Lester scout the Blaine County Savings Bank and examine police response to the location.

Military Hardware

Michael and Trevor must ambush a military convoy and steal a truck.

Predator

Trevor, Michael, Franklin, and Chop eliminate the remaining O'Neil Brothers.

The Paleto Score

Michael, Trevor, and Franklin rob the Paleto bank using high-grade military equipment.

Derailed

Michael and Trevor crash a Merryweather train and loot the items to offer to Martin.

Monkey Business

Michael, Dave, and Steve infiltrate the Humane Labs facility to steal a nerve gas. Trevor and Franklin also help along. Later, Trevor returns Patricia to Martin along with stolen Merryweather loot.

Hang Ten

Trevor kills Floyd and Debra in their apartment and moves to Vanilla Unicorn with Wade.

Surveying the Score

Michael, Franklin, Trevor, and Lester scout the Union Depository to loot it later.

Bury the Hatchet

Trevor travels to Ludendorff to see who is buried in the graveyard. He finds Brad’s corpse and breaks out in a fight with Michael. The Los Santos Triads ambush the scene and Michael ends up in their possession.

Pack Man

After stealing a Pegassi Monroe, Franklin, Trevor, and Lamar have to deliver all stolen cars to Paleto Bay.

Fresh Meat

Franklin must find and rescue Michael from the Triads before they kill him.

Cleaning out the Bureau

Michael and Lester must follow a FIB janitor to his house and steal his ID card.

Architect's Plans

Franklin must steal the briefcase of Chip Peterson that contains the blueprints of the FIB building. You will be given two choices for the Bureau Raid: Covert Approach and Roof Approach.

Covert Approach: Fire Truck

Steal a fire truck for the Bureau Raid.

Reuniting the Family

The entire De Santa family must reunite at Friedlander’s office to iron out things.

The Bureau Raid

Michael, Franklin, and some associates must infiltrate the FIB building and steal data for Steve. Michael also erases his criminal record during the raid.

The Wrap Up

An intense shootout breaks out between Micahel, Dave, Steve, FIB, IAA, and Merryweather. Trevor arrives at the scene to protect Micahel.

Lamar Down

Franklin, Michael, and Trevor must save Lamar from the Ballas gang in the Paleto Forest Sawmill.

The Ballad of Rocco

Michael must kill Rocco and his partner for attacking Solomon.

Legal Trouble

Michael must chase down Molly Schultz to recover his film reel.

Meltdown

While Michael and Jimmy attend the premiere of the Meltdown movie, Devin sends Merryweather to their house. Michael must return to his house and rescue the family.

Planning the Big Score

Michael, Trevor, Franklin, and Lester must choose the approach and crew to rob the Union Depository. You will get two approaches: Subtle and Obvious.

Subtle Approach: Stingers

Steal a Police Transporter.

Subtle Approach: Gauntlet

Steal and customize three Bravado Gauntlets.

Obvious Approach: Driller

Steal a driller vehicle from La Mesa.

Obvious Approach: Sidetracked

Steal a train from the Grand Senora Desert using an HVY Skylift.

The Big Score

Michael, Trevor, Franklin, and their associates must loot four tons of gold from the Union Depository.

After this mission, the GTA V mission guide readers must choose one of the three Endings for the finale:

Ending 1 - Something Sensible

Franklin must kill Trevor on the advice of Steve.

Ending 2 - The Time's Come

Franklin must kill Michael on the advice of Devin.

Ending 3 - The Third Way

While it appears to be a suicide option for Franklin, he ends up teaming up with Michael and Trevor and kills Wei Cheng, Stretch, Steve Haines, and Devin Weston.
