Why Minecraft needs a traditional fast travel system for exploring distant areas

Minecraft has a massive map that is nearly endless. Though players have reached the world border, they had to walk for millions of blocks to do so; in other words, traveling in the sandbox game is not the easiest. On average, players are only able to explore a tiny amount of the entire in-game world. Even though there are ways to travel faster in all three dimensions, the game should have a traditional fast travel system like many other major titles.

Here are some of the reasons why Minecraft should have a fast travel system.

Reasons why vanilla Minecraft should have a traditional fast travel system

As mentioned above, the moment Minecraft players enter a new world, the entire map of the game opens up for them at once. They can travel the Overworld, the Nether, and the End for hours on end, but the game will keep generating more terrains and biomes to explore.

Even with the best transport systems like Elytra, players cannot fly fast enough to reach every corner of the world quickly. Furthermore, if they create a new base a few thousand blocks away, they cannot link them together to be able to hop back and forth instantly.

This is one of the main reasons why the game should have a fast travel system.

Partial fast travel systems are not as efficient and single-player-friendly

Over the years, players found several tricks to travel faster in Minecraft. One of them is to use an ender pearl stasis chamber, which allows players to teleport back to a point where they threw the ender pearl that was floating on top of a water block. However, this method requires a person or a redstone block to activate the trapdoor that touches the ender pearl.

Another method to travel fast in Minecraft is to use the Nether realm. It is well-known by now that if players travel one block in the Nether, they will essentially move eight blocks ahead in the Overworld if they create a portal then and there. However, even traveling fast in the Nether would require the tedious labor of walking, running, riding, or flying.

A dedicated fast travel system that instantly teleports players with a click of a button would be much more efficient.

Fast travel mods show a real need for the feature in the vanilla version

Over the years, players have already felt the need for a fast travel system in Minecraft. The modding community has even created fast travel mods to satisfy that demand in the vast open-world sandbox. One of them, called Waystones, is massively famous in the community, having been downloaded over 165,000,000 times.

The amount of downloads for the Waystones mod clearly shows that there is a dire need for a dedicated fast travel system in Minecraft.
