Dune Awakening: How to get Carbon Ore

Dune Awakening Carbon Ore
Carbon Ore is the third tier of mineral you can farm in Dune Awakening - here's where to expect it to spawn (Image via Funcom/YouTube@HeRo Survival Guides)

Like all minerals in Dune Awakening, Carbon Ore is going to be very important to your survival. It’s a “Tier 3” material, so it comes after you’ve spent time farming Copper Ore and Iron Ore. Don’t stress if you can’t find it as soon as you hit the Vermillius Gap; that’s because you won’t find it there. It’s spread out into a different region, much like Iron and Copper before it.

However, if you want to make more powerful weapons, armor, and construction materials through the Research system, you’re going to want to stack some Carbon Ore in Dune Awakening. Here’s where you’re going to find it.

How to farm Carbon Ore in Dune Awakening

You won’t find Carbon Ore in Dune Awakening until you’ve gone beyond Vermillius Gap, and into Jabal Efrit Al-janub. This is the area to the north of Vermillius Gap, so you may not want to rush there as soon as you get to Vermillius Gap. We recommend taking your time, for a few reasons. That area is far more dangerous, and you also need a specialized tool to farm this ore.

Like Iron Ore before it, Dune Awakening’s Carbon Ore requires a better Cutteray, the Cutteray Mk2, which can be made in a General Fabricator or Survival Fabricator. It requires 10x Iron Ingots and 7x EMF Generators to craft. Once you have this, and are ready to move on, head north from Western Vermillius Gap, and into Jabal Efrit Al-janub.

Like all other ores, you’ll find it around rocky areas, but be careful, it’s a much more dangerous area than the ones you’ve been to. Just look for the ore with the brilliant, gleaming white rocks sticking out of it. It will certainly stand out compared to the ores you’ve picked up before now.

If you can’t craft the Cutteray yet, you will almost certainly see little rocks of Carbon Ore you can pick up on the ground, but that will take way more time to get what you need. It will, of course, take time to get what you need, but with patience, the nodes will respawn. We recommend relocating your base to an area where there are several Carbon Ore nodes, to make farming as easy as possible.
