Dune Awakening is a survival game that requires you to gather various resources. Set in a desert world, water is a resource you’ll constantly need to look for. It can be acquired via multiple means. However, to make the process hassle-free, you’ll need many Windtraps.
A Windtrap is a device that collects water from the environment over time. You can set it up at your base, and it will passively collect water while you explore Arrakis for other resources. This guide explains how to acquire the device.
How to acquire a Windtrap in Dune Awakening
The Windtrap is a crucial component in the game as you progress your base, and can be crafted from the Research tab. Regardless of whether you choose Locked or Unlocked Research, you’ll need to invest 100 Intel Points to unlock its schematics.

Once the Windtrap is unlocked, you can craft the item. Here are the crafting requirements for Windtrap:
The process of building a Windtrap doesn’t take much time. However, acquiring the materials will. Iron Ingots must also be crafted separately using Iron Ore – you'll need 90 to make enough Steel Ingots for one device.
How to use a Windtrap
Rather than spending time collecting water, it’s better to have things automated with some of these devices set up at your base. Once you craft your first Windtrap, it can be set up at your base and will require Filters to function.

You can use a Makeshift, Standard, or Particulate Filter to power the device. If you plan on setting up several of these, MakeShift or Standard filters would be a better overall choice. Having a few Windtraps is recommended for decent output.
Windtrap general stats
- Power Cost - 75
- Inventory Slot Capacity - 5
- Inventory Volume Capacity - 25
- Water Capacity - 500
- Water Gather Rate - 0.75
- Health - 3,500
Windtraps can store some water, but they fill up very quickly. That’s why you’ll also need to have Cistern containers. Even a basic one can store 10 times more than the device. Once you have a container set up, re-route the water to it.
