WoW The War Within adding an Arachnophobia Mode is a great idea, but not all players know where to find it, much less what it actually does. With as many spider enemies, bosses, and areas that fill the current expansion’s content, it can make many players incredibly uncomfortable. While the Arachnophobia Mode doesn’t remove all instances of spiders from the game, it does certainly cover a great deal of ground.
Now that the first raid has launched in World of Warcraft's The War Within expansion, Arachnophobia Mode is more important than ever for a select group of players. If you don’t know where it’s found, or what it offers you as a player, we’re here to help.
Where to turn on Arachnophobia Mode in WoW The War Within
You can find Arachnophobia Mode in WoW The War Within by entering the options menu. You can find it in one of two ways.
- The first is by opening the options, and under Accessibility, and clicking General. It can be found at the absolute bottom of this menu, so just scroll all the way down.
- Otherwise, you can just open the options, and type Arachnophobia Mode in the search bar at the top. This will immediately pull it up for you. It also offers you a handy link that gives you more information about the mode.
What Arachnophobia Mode does and does not affect in WoW The War Within
Arachnophobia Mode in WoW The War Within does cover a few very important aspects of the game. It transforms spider enemies into Clacker enemies — a type of large lobster enemy. It also adjusts the following spider enemies and transforms them:
- Creatures and bosses in the outdoor world, dungeons, and raids.
- Battle Pets.
- Hunter Pets.
- Mounts. (Note: Mount models will not dynamically swap if a player is already on the mount before changing this setting)
Even the new Swarmite Skyhunter mount changes, as you can see above. It doesn’t change all spider-themed stuff, though.
This setting in-game will not adjust a few things, namely:
- Pre-rendered cinematics.
- Dungeon Journal boss entries.
- Loading screen art.
- Item and spell icon art.
- All 3D and 2D cobwebs and webbings.
There are also some Nerubian/spider enemies that will still exhibit certain spider-like qualities, so it’s not a perfect Arachnophobia Mode in World of Warcraft. Here are the examples that Blizzard gave on their website:
- Nerubian Priest
- Nerubian Swarmer
- Cryptlord
- Queen Ansurek
- Flightmaster Roost
