The latest Warframe update, the Duviri Paradox, adds a new open world to explore and several melee combat mechanics to fill out the Drifter gameplay. While the new melee systems, like parrying in Warframe, do not measure up to the spectacles of the Soulframe promo, it still gives the Drifter gameplay a unique identity. The new free-roam landscape, Duviri, is likely the most feature-rich compared to other open areas from previous updates. To showcase the ambitious stride made in Duviri, Digital Extremes has put it forward as the curtain-raiser to new Warframe players.

If you have just begun playing the Duviri Paradox update, you will be presented with two options on how to start playing - the Warframe path or the new Duviri path.

How are the Warframe and Duviri paths different?

The Warframe path

If you are a newcomer, let us cut to the chase: the original path is simply the legacy tutorial added to the game some time ago. It is how every new player between the game's release and the Duviri Paradox update has experienced the game.

Admittedly, this beginning segment has undergone numerous changes throughout the game. For example, the introductory cinematic, directed by Dan Tatchenberg, was only added in 2019.

After this prologue, the legacy path takes you through the introductory quest, Vor's Prize. The quest has you romp through some Grineer outposts on Earth as you reclaim different modules for your ship one by one. As you install said modules, the game gives a brief primer on their functionality: the Arsenal, the modding system, the Navigation, and the Foundry.

Finally, you finish Vor's prize by assassinating the eponymous Grineer commander. After this quest, you are left alone with a message from the Lotus on how to find your way through the star chart.

The following are the rewards: firstly, you get your set of starter weapons, your beginner Warframe, and a few 'flawed' mods. The 'Flawed' and 'Broken' mods are essential and beginner-friendly alternatives to the actual mods for their lenient upgrade costs.

The Duviri Path

The legacy path involves a roughly 20-minute-long primary training segment. You pick up your starter Warframe, a primary, a secondary, and a melee weapon from several choices, and fight your way out to your spaceship, waiting to take off. This training segment puts you directly into the meat of the gameplay and is missable if you pick the Duviri path.

In comparison, the Duviri path is a slow start that gives you time to immerse yourself in the lore. In this route, you take roughly two to three hours going through the Duviri spiral in the new free-roam world.

The actual Warframes only come into play in brief glimpses when you access the 'Underforge.' As you beat the quest, fight the Orowyrm, and the tale of Dominas Thrax draws to a close, you can move on to immediately start Vor's Prize. Alternatively, you can continue to play the whole Duviri experience with its side activities and partake in the mainline gameplay through the Circuit.

The Conclusion

The two paths eventually converge, leaving you very little that you will miss if you take the Duviri path and miss nothing if you take the legacy route.

However, for a beginner, the Duviri route presents a slight edge.

For one, it has pre-made default mod builds that the player may take a hint from. The Circuit represents the bulk of mid-game content with a good balance of challenge.

Moreover, the reward system presents lucrative mods, blueprints, and components. The components and frame blueprints might be from planets far into the star chart or require much tricky grind that one would forego. With smart investments, this will give newcomers a great running start when they engage in the main game.
