WoW The War Within Mythic+ DPS tier list (Season One)

Before you dive into Mythic+ in WoW The War Within, here are the top DPS picks in our tier list (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

As the first Mythic+ season in WoW The War Within is upon us, it’s time to make a DPS tier list. There are simply so many DPS routes to go in World of Warcraft, and most of them, frankly, are pretty great. The expansion has a few classes/specs that don’t feel quite as good as the rest, but overall, there are no real bad picks. At the end of the day, your gear and skill with a class will mean more than simply picking an S-tier option.

Much like the Healer tier list, it’s far more important for you to be comfortable in the role you’re playing, instead of just picking whatever’s the strongest. If you pick a powerful class and don’t really know the ins and outs, dominating the DPS meters will be much harder. Here’s where we think each DPS class stands right now, in our WoW The War Within DPS Mythic+ tier list for Season One.

WoW The War Within tier list: Which DPS picks are the strongest?

S-tier

Elemental Shaman has never felt better (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • Frost Death Knight
  • Augmentation Evoker
  • Elemental Shaman

When it comes to the top tier in WoW The War Within DPS for Mythic+, these are our picks. They have the potential to dominate in the highest level of keys.

Augmentation Evoker has felt pretty amazing since its inception. Frost Death Knight started the expansion strong and isn’t letting up. While I’ve never found Elemental Shaman very exciting, I will say this is probably the strongest the class has ever been.

A-tier

While I prefer Demonology, Affliction really stands out as the better pick right now (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • Affliction Warlock
  • Arcane Mage
  • Assassination Rogue
  • Enhancement Shaman
  • Retribution Paladin
  • Havoc Demon Hunter

Any class that’s in the A-tier has solid damage and tends to bring at least something useful to your overall success. If it weren’t for a few minor things, I’d put Arcane in S-tier, to be honest. It’s the hardest-hitting class in the game right now, can do its single-target rotation as AOE, and is just blindingly powerful.

The only downside is that you have to hope and pray for Arcane Orb. If it doesn’t happen, you lose out on damage.

Speaking of damage, you’ve got classes like Assassination Rogue that bring Bait, as well as Switch, and can AOE inflict Iron Wire Garrote. It’s a little harder to get the damage you want out of a Paladin, but I feel strongly about its potential and useful utility skillset. The ability to cleanse poisons is a must, and then you have Blessing of Protection to top things off.

B-tier

Unholy Death Knights are still a solid pick, even if they lag behind Frost (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • Fury Warrior
  • Windwalker Monk
  • Demonology Warlock
  • Survival Hunter
  • Arms Warrior
  • Frost Mage
  • Unholy Death Knight
  • Shadow Priest

The classes mentioned in WoW The War Within’s B-tier for Mythic+ DPS are solid, but they just lack something that the higher options have. If you can combine them with other DPS that make up for this, all will be well.

Nerfs to Diabolist really hurt Demonology Warlock, though it’s still by far my favorite way to play the class currently. Windwalker Monk has the potential to be amazing but is just okay at the moment. It’s very much a case of the other melee DPS options just bringing more to the table.

I’m a fan of skills like Ring of Peace as a CC ability and Detox for removing Magical effects, but overall, I feel B-tier classes lack utility.

C-tier

Devastation just isn't as great as Augmentation (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • Marksmanship Hunter
  • Balance Druid
  • Destruction Warlock
  • Fire Mage
  • Outlaw Rogue
  • Feral Druid
  • Devastation Evoker

C-tier classes have to, unfortunately, struggle just a bit harder in WoW The War Within Mythic+ dungeons. These are options with multiple issues holding them back, whether it’s a lack of damage or utility.

For example, Destruction Warlock is the weakest Warlock. It has a nice portfolio of utility options, but the damage is lackluster. It’s far better to bring a DPS that can do both well, instead of something that would just wind up being a support class.

Speaking of builds I love that have been ruined, hello, Fire Mage. This build took some extreme, perhaps even unfair, nerfs to Lit Fuse. Now, the class — while fine for other content — is miserable in WoW The War Within Mythic+ dungeons.

D-tier

Sorry, Beast Masters, I love it too, but it's just not where it should be (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)

  • Beast Mastery Hunter

All by itself, down at the bottom, is the Beast Mastery Hunter. I almost put Fire Mage down here as well. However, D-tier specs are the classes that, even if you have a true mastery of them, will suffer compared to other builds.

Beast Mastery Hunter has decent single-target damage but is pure misery for AOE, which is important in many Mythic+ dungeons. Even with decent utility tools, there’s no reason to play Beast Mastery right now.
