The first driver in NASCAR history to score three championships, Cale Yarborough had a knack for being the talk of the town. He achieved fame in NASCAR more ways than winning races. Yarborough even got appreciation from NASCAR for bringing popularity to the sport, albeit in a different way.

He was involved in a tussle with the Waltrip brothers and fined $6000. But, he was returned $4000 because the incident had brought NASCAR in the limelight and increased its interaction with the viewers. As a driver, he has achieved 83 victories in NASCAR. He is tied with Jimmie Johnson in sixth place in the list of drivers with most wins in NASCAR.

Yarborough was a NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee of 2012. He was fairly successful outside NASCAR and owned several businesses. He also had his own farm and carried over his father’s agricultural business. In 1969, Ford produced a special Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II Special Edition in honour of Cale Yarborough.

Cale Yarborough raced during the era of 1950s-1980s, It is difficult to determine the exact salary of Yarborough. However, according to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, his yearly salary during his peak years amounted to nearly $600,000.

Cale Yarborough Contract

Cale Yarborough had the most diverse contract out of any driver in NASCAR history. He has driven for more than 10 teams throughout his career in NASCAR. However, his most iconic appearances were at Junior Johnson and Associates where he won his championships and in Ranier-Lundy Racing where he won the Daytona 500 back to back in 1983 and 1984. He drove for Junior Johnson and Associates for seven years from 1974 to 1980 and for Ranier-Lundy from 1983 to 1987.

Yarborough drove his final year in NASCAR at his own team, Cale Yarborough Motorsports. He spent 30 years in NASCAR competing in 560 races and got 83 wins and 319 Top-10s throughout his career.
