Cale Yarborough’s fame in NASCAR was of such a level that a special model of the car, Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II was named after him. He won three consecutive Winston Cup Series championships throughout his career becoming one of the only drivers to achieve the feat.

He was inducted in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1993 owing to his achievements in NASCAR Cup Series. Yarborough is among the most successful drivers of the sport. He has a win percentage of 14.82 making him 9th best of all-time and third best in the list of drivers with 500 or more starts.

Yarborough was disqualified from what could be his first race in the Cup Series. He lied about his age and tried to sneak in the Southern 500 but he was found out. Cale Yarborough is also popular due to the fistfighting incident he had with the Allison brothers.

Initially, he was fined $6000 but he was refunded some of the money back because he made the sport popular. Yarborough died on December 31st in 2023. His death was a great loss to stock racing.
