Denny Hamlin’s crew chief is Chris Gayle, and he is not the former West Indies cricketer. Denny Hamlin is an active professional stock car racing driver. He primarily competes in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time. Hamlin is a driver and team owner in the Cup Series. He is the co-owner of 23XI Racing and a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 11 Toyota Camry XSE. Hamlin has not won a championship in the NASCAR Cup Series and is the driver with the most wins in the Cup Series without a championship. He is known for being the fourth driver to win the Daytona 500 in back-to-back seasons.

Hamlin has won three of the four Crown Jewel races, with the Brickyard 400 being the only exception. He has been a crucial part of the Cup Series and is the second-oldest driver in the 2025 Cup Series. Denny Hamlin has reached the NASCAR Playoffs in every season he has competed full-time in the Cup Series. He also hosts a podcast “Actions Detrimental with Denny Hamlin”.

Chris Gayle is reportedly going to be the crew chief for Denny Hamlin, as of the 2025 Cup Seires season. Hamlin's previous crew chief, Chris Gabehart, earned himself a promotion and will serve as the competition director for Joe Gibbs Racing as of February 2025. Chris Gayle is no stranger to operations with the team. He was previously paired with Joe Gibbs driver, Ty Gibbs. Gayle has also worked with Hamlin in Xfinity Series. The duo have earned a victory together in the Xfinity series.

Chris Gayle is known that he has won two Cup Series race, 37 Xfinity races and the 2022 Xfinity Series championship. Gayle has been a part of Joe Gibbs Racing as a crew chief and engineer on previous occasions. He has also worked with veteran NASCAR drivers, Kyle Busch and Erik Jones on previous occasions. Chris Gayle chiefed the no.54 car during the 2024 season. The team claimed, eight top-five finishes, 12 top-10s, two pole awards, and 417 laps led. He was able to help Ty Gibbs claim the Rookie of the Year honors in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series.

Chris Gayle is a native of Arkansas. He earned an engineering degree from the University of Arkansas but transferred to North Carolina. He initally joined Team Bristol Motorsports with Kevin Grubb behind the wheel. Gayle switched to Joe Gibbs Racing as an engineer in 2003, working with the JGR’s Camping World Truck Series team. Chris Gayle was the engineer for the no.18 team at JGR from 2004 to 2012. During his tenure, he worked with Bobby Labonte and JJ Yeley. Gayle claimed his first win in the team in 2007 with Kyle Busch. Chris Gayle was able to win 20 races with Kyle Busch behind the wheel in five years.

Chris Gayle was promoted to the role in 2013. He became the crew chief for Elliott Saddler during the 2013 Xfinity Series. He was able to win his first race as a crew chief in 2014 at the Talladega Superspeedway. He renunited with Kyle Busch behind the no.54 car during the 2015 championship. Chris Gayle served with JGR until the 2017 season. He took a temporary break from the team to work with Furniture Row Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. He was the crew chief of Erik Jones for four season and won two races with him. Gayle rejoined JGR in 2021 serving as a crew chief for the no.54 car in the Xfinity Series.
