NASCAR Cup Series is the biggest and the most popular series in the world of stock racing. It is one of the biggest names in motorsports, having secured a big presence in America. NASCAR racing is easily the best place any stock racing driver would want to race in.

A NASCAR driver has access to a lot of limelight and money. Every driver has a dream to win the Cup Series title making the competition incredibly difficult. NASCAR Cup Series features 36 races and more than 30 different drivers fighting on the tarmac ruthlessly to secure a victory in the race.

The Cup Series Champion is decided in a series of eliminator races known as the “Chase for Cup” series. Ryan Blaney was the winner of the NASCAR Cup Series in 2023, besting other drivers in the final race of the season. Martin True Jr. was the regular season champion, crowned so after gaining the most points in the 2023 season. NASCAR cars are one of the fastest machines in motorsports, which can reach speeds more than 190 mph. They run on a heavily modified chassis specially made for NASCAR and have a special set of tires equipped with them to handle the grunt of oval racing.

NASCAR tires size

The 2022 regulations and the introduction of the Next-Gen car meant that they will be equipped with a new set of tires. Goodyear supplies 18 inch tires which resemble the tires used in the stock version of the cars used in NASCAR. The stock Mustang, Camry and Camaro, all come equipped with 18 inch wheels from the showroom. The 18 inch here is the rim diameter of the tire.

The exact specifications of the tire are 365/35 R18s. The width of the tire is now 12 inches. NASCAR tires supplied by Goodyear are a part of Goodyear Eagle series tires which are made exclusively for NASCAR. However, the tires used in the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck series are the older 15 inch tires with a bigger sidewall.

Why are NASCAR tires wider?

NASCAR tires may be using the same 18 inch rim diameter as the stock cars but they are wider than regular tires. They have a width of 12 inches. These tires are treadless and have a smooth contact patch. The treadless design helps in creating more traction and effectively gripping the track leading to better performance on high speeds. The wider tire helps in achieving the same3 through a bigger contact patch between the tire and the road during racing.
