Gurtej Singh: A Brief Biography
Gurtej Singh is an Indian footballer who was born on 18 December 1989 in Punjab, India. He plays as a centre-back and is a strong player in his respective position. He currently plays for FC Pune City in the Indian Super League.
Background
Gurtej's father, Manmohan Singh gave up football due to his parent's wish to focus on studies. He later became a football coach in his native town. Gurtej started his football journey under the guidance of his father who groomed and honed his skills in his early days.
A quick-learner Gurtej made his way to the Khalsa Senior Secondary School located in Kurali which was the best football nursery in the region.
After completing his high school studies, he moved to Mahilpur Football Academy and then joined the Jagatjit Cotton & Textile Football Club, or known as JCT FC of the I-League to start his professional career.
Debut
Singh made his International Club debut against Semen Padang in the AFC Cup in May 2013 as his club Churchill Brothers lost the match.
Club Career
Gurtej played for the JCT FC for one season in 2010 as the club was dissolved at the end of it. As a result, he moved to Palian Arrows of the I-League to spend a season with them before eventually signing with Churchill Brothers. He made his debut for the club against East Bengal in November 2012 as his club lost the match.
In July 2013, he signed for Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League to have two year stint with them to join Fateh Hyderabad FC in the I-League second division.
He was signed by FC Pune City in the 2017-18 ISL season.
